Ross Barkley

Again, he's played at a higher level at his age than both of our first team midfielders did. Toure was getting rejected by Arsenal at a similar age, and his fee would probably match that we paid for Fernandinho, who himself has been suffering from that 'second season syndrome' that people have been aiming at Barkley. But Fernandinho is a Brazil international substitute in the worse Brazil midfield in living memory,so £30m for him is obviously good business despite the fact he has already peaked.

At worst, Barkley can run about and keep the ball moving like Fernandinho does, but with more power in the tackle, a better shot and a better passing range (like his performance at QPR) At best, he can match and even exceed Toure; his performance and goal at Goodison last season against us was testament to that.

The key to achieving this is opportunity; it's all well and good getting giddy about youtube videos of Koke and Pogba, but they're players who've had 2-3 years playing with and against top players for top clubs. Schweinsteiger and Iniesta only became elite-level players with years of elite-level experience. Germany and Spain have a culture of putting faith in and cultivating their talents, and have reaped the rewards internationally. Here, the likes of Ferguson and Rodgers, coaches who pride themselves on developing British talent have been too few and far between.

Sorry but anyone who thinks he is worth £30m or more doesn't have a clue about football and simply buys into hype. Marcos Lopes is a smarter player and will probably turn out better.

Not saying Barkley won't turn out good but if he's Dutch, you're looking at £8m + add-ons to get him from Feyenoord or PSV.

Paradoxical comment about buying into hype when championing Marcos Lopes, a player who thus far has proved nothing.

Nearly everyone has been shit for Everton this season. He's a teenage lad don't forget and he's better than most of the players we've bought since Aguero. People panicking about 30m but that's how much Fernandinho was. He's going to be a very good player that we can hopefully develop into a great one.

Nope he is 21 years old and sorry I don't get the hype surrounding the player.

The difference is Koke and Pogba have performed at a lot higher level than the likes of Barkley.

And we have no chance in signing Pogba unless we spunk our entire transfer budget on him and even then he will still choose Real Madrid. For the right price and not the silly £30million+ that the press seem to value him at Barkley could be a very good player for us. I mean did you see his goal of the month goal? Average players can't score those type of goals from that distance with their weaker foot the kid has serious talent but is going to waste at Everton.

He's been a peripheral figure for Everton this season in much the same way Rodwell was the season before we signed him. Now I know he's better than Rodwell but if we are going to spend big on a potential replacement for Yaya, there must be better options than bit part Everton players.

I just hope we don't make a big mistake with Barkley this summer, but have a horrible feeling we're going to. It has cut price £12m move to Newcastle/Sunderland/Villa in 2017 written all over it.

He hasn't been in the limelight as much this season and that maybe because Everton collectively are struggling. It was mentioned in an earlier thread that he can show brilliance one moment, and then go missing for long periods. The talent may be there, but the application needs significant work.

Too early to say he will become world class, but over these last two seasons keeping an eye on him, I do not think he will significantly improve us.
