(2/2) Everton have no intentions of selling Ross Barkley and know they could command £50million plus for the midfielder
He's got 18 months left on a contract and doesn't seem willing to sign a new one. If they don't sell him this summer, he'll be worth £15m at most by January. From Barkley's view, if he gets to January, he may as well stay and command a bigger signing on fee as Everton would only get what a tribunal decided on.

There's nothing in Barkley to say he's currently a £50m player. The big clubs can therefore wait and see if he becomes one, then pay Everton about £5m and Barkley the wages he'll want. If you buy him now, it's a gamble but avoids the competition from the others. That gamble isn't worth £45m and Everton will know it

I find it very odd that a player would have 18 months left on a contract in the summertime. That would mean it would expire in January. I thought all clubs dated contracts to end at the conclusion of the football season?

Daily Fail claiming everton could command 50m plus for Barkley. now THAT is what is ruining English football.

This! Everyday of the week, three times on Sunday and twice on a Wednesday!
Stupidly overpriced English players. That is where Greg Dyke needs to do some work.
26mish for David Silva 50m for Barkley - you have got to be shitting me!!

Tbh (& I'm not having a go at you personally) it's this kind of thinking which has already ruined football.

The assumption that Everton aren't allowed to have a player who becomes a star. And it's true, they're not. If Barkley becomes a star he will be taken from them, just as SWP was taken from City & Micah would have been if not for Frank taking over. Everton don't want to sell the lad so they ask for stupid money. But everyone knows that if he keeps improving, someone will turn his head, & he will refuse to sign a new deal & then he will be taken from Everton. So will any other top quality young players they develop, just like Southampton. Then they will be replaced by 3rd tier foreigners, because the best want to play Champions Lg & also the wages are too high for Everton to afford.

There was a time where Barkley would have been coming through at Everton to join the likes of Rooney, who had been there ten years & David Beckham played his whole career at West Ham.

The fact that these things can never happen is where football has been ruined & it happened a long time before we had money.

Do you really believe that. So in January Barkley is worth £15m. So if say chelsea bid that you expect Everton to accept it even if they were to sell? No because another club will think despite his contract £20m is still good value given his age and potenial (and englishness), then the next club will say £25m is pretty good value given all that etc etc. His short contract wont really matter when a number of clubs are vying for his signiture, similar to what happened with Nasri

According to the internet, he signed a four and a half year deal in December 11, meaning he still has two years left, putting Everton in a potentially stronger position than the 18 months from what was suggested earlier in the thread.

However, in December, his contact will have been in place for 3 years, meaning he can buy himself out of it. His wages are reported to be £15k a week, so his buy out would be about £1.2m. Even with compensation on top, which I don't think they could get, they'd be lucky to see £10m.

Unless he signs a contract, or indicates he will, Everton will be foolish not to sell him for whatever they can get.

Has any player ever done that? Bought themselves out of their contract I mean?

A couple, but no one I'd ever heard of without Googling them . I guess clubs recognise the risk and therefore don't allow players they want to keep to get into that situation.

The problem for Everton is that they've reportedly been offering Barkley a new contract since before Christmas and he's not signed it. Again, only paper talk, but £40k a week is suggested. You can't value a player at £50m and then offer him £40k a week. I suspect the likes of City and Chelsea would be looking at closer to £60k basic, since the likes of Sinclair (!), Rodwell, Micah are on £50-£60k a week, plus then bonuses based on appearances and winning things which could easily bring it closer to £100k a week. He could also be looking at a huge signing on fee to more than cover the cost of buying out his contract and the ensuing fight for his signature would only push the price up.

You can see why Everton may have to accept doing a deal and you can see why City would be keen to do it now before the auction starts next year.

If he really wants to join us as hinted at, let him wind down his contract to 12/6 months and see what happens to that £50m asking price.
