He's got 18 months left on a contract and doesn't seem willing to sign a new one. If they don't sell him this summer, he'll be worth £15m at most by January. There's nothing in Barkley to say he's currently a £50m player. The big clubs can therefore wait and see if he becomes one, then pay Everton about £5m and Barkley the wages he'll want. If you buy him now, it's a gamble but avoids the competition from the others. That gamble isn't worth £45m and Everton will know it
