He used an analogy where a black player is the monkey. Do I really need to go into the history of black people being discriminated against on the false basis that they were genetically inferior, thus being labelled as monkeys and having bananas thrown at them? The fact that he's apologised shows he knows it was stupid and that he hadn't thought it through properly.

I certainly don't think he's racist or the comment was inherently racist. It would not have made sense.

Think he just wanted to animate his statement by saying feed the [any animal].

Say monkey to a coloured person and ears will certainly perk, I agree.

Townsend isn't even black anyway...
