Roy Hodgson 'Feed the monkey'

He should apologise for such a shit joke, that is all though.
At least Hodgson has enough awareness about him to realise it was stupid and to apologise. Done and dusted as far as I'm concerned.

He had no awareness at all. It was only when a senior player took offence that he thought anything at all.

Say England had a really really shit first half V Poland and at HT Hodgson reffered to them all as playing like a bunch of girls.

Would that whip up a shitstorm?

Fucking hell!!!!!

My point exactly, it's an absolute non story.

People with nothing else better to do complaining about something so shit.

I'd like to know who complained about this in the first place.

One of the players.

Gonna drop him?

Probably because he didn't even have a racist notion in his mind.

You're not going to intentionally offend players you're counting on to produce.

He could have said you need to feed the lion, but say monkey and people will ask questions. However, there's nothing in it (intentionally) as far as I'm concerned, but yes it's clear to see how it can offend.

And even if he was trying to be racist, the last person he'd say the Townsend comments to would be Smalling.

The question we all need to ask ourselves is:

what would Liverpool FC say about this?
Release a dodgy statement & wear cringeworthy t-shirts.

I'd be amazed if he used the term monkey in a racist way, presumably it was just a phrase and he would have said it even if he was talking about a white player who he wanted "feeding". He's guilty of nothing more than being thoughtless. He's apologised for any offence caused and that should be the end of it imo. Clearly if he used that phrase because Townsend is black then he should be sacked but does anyone actually believe that was the case? I'd like to think Ancelotti will use that phrase about Bale this weekend.
