He could have said you need to feed the lion, but say monkey and people will ask questions. However, there's nothing in it (intentionally) as far as I'm concerned, but yes it's clear to see how it can offend.

Hodgson was in a situation where he should have been aware of the connotations of such a reference,not one of those players would have had a fucking clue what he was talking about and,as it seems,at least one of them has taken it to suggest something more relevant to their own references.
