Roy Hodgson 'Feed the monkey'

Yeah, I go along with the idea that it was reported to the media by a player who doesn't much like Hodgson, I doubt it had anything to do with anyone being genuinely offended by the joke even though it was a bit thoughtless of Hodgson to use that particular analogy.

By the way, for those who are on about Hodgson not intending to cause offence - that's all fine and dandy, but in the workplace it doesn't matter if you mean to cause offence. It's not the intent, it's the perception. If one of the players was offended then that's what matters.

I don't for a second think Hodgson is racist, but he's a fucking idiot for saying what he did. As I've said before, have people in football missed the last 25 years?

Ah well, it all bodes well for England's preparation for the World Cup......

So what you are saying is that no-one is allowed to say anything that might be perceived as offensive whether intended or not?

BOLLOCKS

What we are seeing is the inability of individuals to understand how communication works. In other words, we are being dictated to, and controlled by, the stupid.

Unfortunately fella it's not bollocks, it's true. If you work in a company with a HR department just go along and ask them.

Scenario: you are speaking to a friend and tell an 'off colour' joke, or make a remark to them, and your friend doesn't take offence - all fine and dandy. However, if a colleague over hears that remark and takes offence at it, regardless of the fact that you didn't intend any offence, and that they weren't involved in the conversation, you'd still have to speak with HR about the comments.

It's the world we now live in.

I'm sorry it IS bollocks - its gone beyond common sense now....

Does anyone else remember Geoff Hurst (as he then was) on MOTD in the early nineties, alongside Garth Crooks, when he used that unfortunate expression that our grandparents used to use that involves black people and woodpiles.

It really was a "drop your bacon sarnie" moment. Even twenty years ago what the fuck was he thinking? I remember turning to mate and saying "did he just fucking say what I thought he said?"

I didn't see him make another appearance.

Shame the same can't be said about Garth Crooks.

For me, the only suggestion that the monkey in space was referring to a black player was in the mind of the "senior player" that complained. Perhaps that might give the FA a starting point for their racism investigation?
