Ruben Dias - Benfica confirm sale to City

City reportedly made the same bid for Dias as they offered to Sevilla for Jules Koundé, which the Spanish club rejected. Many were hoping that City would sign the the Frenchman as their main target this summer, and while I believe he is a talented player, City got a much better fit for their team.

City’s goal with this summer signing was to bring in a player with experience, physicality, and leadership, and I believe Dias outclasses his rival in all three of these categories. Koundé impressed in this season’s Europa League, but has yet to make a Champions League appearance and has made just 29 La Liga appearances in his career. Dias is 6’2 compared to Koundé at 5’11, and after signing Nathan Aké earlier this summer, I believe it would have been unwise to sign two sub-6’0 defenders after struggling to cope with physical strikers and aerial battles last season.

Still no announcement on the Club website and none of the news sources are reporting this deal. Reading this forum it sounds like the deal is done. Where is that info coming from ?

Thanks. A little more detailed than some of the other scouting reports in this thread ("He's shit." and "...he cannot be any good as he is third choice"?).

What I found interesting, is that he is a front foot defender, is used to playing high up the pitch and is effective at long passing and PL shifting the ball between the lines. This suggests he will certainly not a be a stranger to the way we play.

From what I have read elsewhere, he is also an effective communicator and a leader. Communication and leadership are two things our backline desperately needs.

The more I read about him, the more I think he is better suited to our needs than Kounde and Koulibaliy.

Mate this would imply that the people doing the transfers at City actually know what they’re doing.

You going to admit you’re wrong or just ignore and pretend it goes away?

Not like you to go on the rant like you have done over this, I expected better from you.

If the release clause was 100m then it does excuse not going for him before Benfica bombed out of the CL

It doesn't excuse not getting him last summer when we desperately needed a CB and he was available for €66m and was just as highly regarded.

Also doesn't explain why they waited 2 vital weeks for the season to start before making a move, Benfica knew they were financially in trouble if they didn't win that game and would need to sell someone important months ago.

On the way to Millsy's house for a cuppa before having a medical. Just a matter of time.

Also Benfica manager has quoted speaking about Dias leaving and any player joining Benfica will have to understand he has totally different ideas to Man City
