Rugby Union Six Nations 2023

That was it for me - if he stands unturned, he gets hit in the midriff. The Ireland player might hit his hip, but that would be about the worst that would happen.

Everyone knows that head hit regs are harsh, yet there is always a lot of whining about them every time the refs apply them!

The studio people at halftime were instructive - Woodward doing his usually red-rose-tinted flailing without much solid base for what he was saying, and the Irishman (can't recall who, but a recently retired player, I think) saying "but that's what the rules are now".
Rory Best.

Agree. Feel a bit of sympathy for him but it's a red card. As the referee said, no mitigation, clear line of sight and he had time to turn his shoulder while remaining upright.
I’m not very knowledgeable on the technicalities of the rules but I expected a yellow.
Admittedly the more you looked at it the worse it looked but it usually does in slow motion.

It gave the game an heir of inevitability although England were playing levels very much above their game against France.
They were purposely trying to rattle the Irish.
I thought Ireland were full of errors in the handling right from the off. Didn’t really reach the heights of their standard but I still felt they would win.

I actually thought it looked worse in real time, first words out of my mouth were 'he'll be lucky if that's only yellow'.

Did it settle your nerves?
I felt, England won’t keep us out for 80 minutes even though we kept dropping the ball.
Two or three opportunities taken that’s all it would take.

Edit: I didn’t watch any of the cup lifting or interviews. Straight over to the City game for the second half.

The table doesn’t lie and Ireland are a magnificent team right now and look almost unbeatable so congratulations to them.

France outstanding and but for Ireland also walk it.

Scotland a very entertaining side who just switch off at the wrong moments but a night future awaits if they continue to progress.

England I am lost for words given the talent pool at their disposal. They look all over the place and even this early, if Borthwick is the answer then I’m not sure what the question was?

Italy are entertaining but sadly whipping boys again and I don’t know how they even start to become competitive.

I thought we'd ridden the storm and we had started to get them figured out anyway tbh. If anything the red galvanised them for a brief period at the start of the second half.

Ireland easily the best team in the championship but the red card was a poor decision. If anything Stewart is trying to avoid the collision and it’s a clumsy accident. Tue laws could t have been intended for people bending down to scoop the ball up

State the bleeding obvious from me but Rugby is a full body contact sport.
Looked like a clumsy challenge to me and yellow.
The rule at present is a joke and killing the game.
Ireland well deserved Grand Slam Champions and high hopes a Northern Hemisphere team can lift the WC again.

England: "Hey, we've picked this young flyer on the wing. The gameplan is not to pass the ball to him".

Italy should really have beaten Wales, and probably Scotland too.
