I only buy what ever is cheaest in the Nike outlet store, suppose each to their own, but i haven't paid over £30 for a pair yet and have been getting over 500 miles out of them. Currently running in a pair of...

Comfortable and sturdy.

Yep. Very nice.
It help my mate works in a sports shop and knocks the price down for the ones I buy.

I’ve just started to run regularly under 50 minutes so will be chuffed too bits to get around that time mate.
50 minutes I have always found as a good benchmark time for when I know I’m getting fit. Currently at about 52/3 minutes but only really been back training for a month after 3 or 4 months of doing bugger all. Once I get to under 50 mins I know I’m getting back into ok shape. I think my days of pushing myself under 45 are gone, just don’t have the motivation now to run for fast times.

I’ve worked really hard this year to lose weight and I’m starting to really push myself but I reckon sub 47 is beyond me-just hope to stay injury free.

Did my second run yesterday. It was a bit harder than the first, mainly because I'd been climbing the day before and everything was still aching, but also because I'd been on my feet at work all day.

Still trying to work out a decent route, but I'm working at a sports uni at the moment, so I might have a look around campus. The only problem is that everyone is much younger and fitter than me.

I’m tempted to do the Bury 10k next weekend, however never ran a 10k in my life. Have racked up nearly 150 parkruns of 5k but that’s the furthest I’ve ever done. Couple of people I know have said I’d find it easy enough without any additional training, that I’d just need to take it a little bit easier than I do the 5k’s - I do parkrun in Heaton in about 26/27 mins.

Thoughts?

Just go do it mate, I’d guess you’ll be under 1 hour, it’ll be flatter than Heaton Park I’d guess too. You’ll enjoy it mate, always good support on them.

You will be fine and the crowd motivates you to get round.

Always find the first 5k the hardest and the second easier and the crowd really inspires you-as does the finish line

Agree with that but I’d suggest a good warm up so the first part of your first 5k isn’t used up warming up. My Parkrun times have tumbled by doing a good mile jog before hand. But yes the crowds don’t half spur you on.

I learn't that tip early on. The first 10 minutes of a race were spent getting my legs warmed up. After a really easy 10 - 15 minutes jog I was ready to get straight into the race. Formula 1 cars start the race with warm engines, brakes and tyres. Another bonus is there is less chance of getting injured.

Running indoors or outdoors.

What we reckoning everyone???

Can't stand running on a treadmill anymore, hate it, right clothing on you'll be fine outdoors regardless of the weather, hat and gloves are key if it's cold but i find i usually end up taking them off anyway. Decent waterproof jacket is an essential through the winter though.
