Running thread

20 bloody minutes? This thread is really starting to Piss me off?!!

Don't worry mate, there is still normal people on here! I did my first 10k today. 1hr 9mins.
It's took me since February to build to 5k. Did 7k last week so decided to try going further. Took is very easy to avoid injuries. Felt really good and in control.
I've no doubt i could have done it faster, but that wasn't the goal. In fact i found myself in a zone where i think i could have run for much longer. Which is a surprise as i normally feel like stopping about 30 seconds into the run!

I used to run with Royton road runners for a while, but I got pissed off because everyone seemed to be osessed with times. Culminated in watching a girl crying her eyes out after doing 10k in 1hr 1 min. She had been training for a couple of months to do a sub 1 hour 10k. it baffled me that she'd ran a 10k which the majority of the population haven't/can't but seen the whole training and race day as a complete failure

I did a marathon and I regard it as one of the worst days of my life because I didn't get under 3:30

Do you not accept that completing a marathon is an amazing achievement in itself?
No. I'd done 23 miles in training. I could have done an extra 3 miles that day to do a marathon.
marathon day was all about getting the time, that's what I'd given up 5 months of my life for. I would go out at weekend and not drink or miss city away games so that I could do long run - all for achieving the time.
What makes it worse was I was in course for 3:14 at 18 miles and got cramp when I bent down and then it all fell apart.

I wanted 3:45 on my first one earlier this year, the race being the day after the home derby didn’t help as I ended up having half a dozen pints though I’d sworn I wouldn’t drink, couldn’t sleep due to loads going through my head. Ended up setting off too fast, 8 minute mile pace and was fucked at 19 miles or so. Ended up at 3:59:21 which I was happy with but also disappointed. I know what @oldhamblue means but see where you’re coming from.

Sterling’s fault!!

I've started a ruuning group on a Weds night with quite a few lads who are just starting to run and it's made me realise that I was a little obsessed with times and had forgotten what was important, making the effort to put the running shoes on and leaving the house!!!!

I have my first race of the year on Sunday with the Salford 10K and looking forward to it-not worried about the time.

I'm going for under 45 minutes!! I know what you mean about times mate, can be obsessive though.

These are my ones - will last me a good couple years
