Always find the first 5k the hardest and the second easier and the crowd really inspires you-as does the finish line

Agree with that but I’d suggest a good warm up so the first part of your first 5k isn’t used up warming up. My Parkrun times have tumbled by doing a good mile jog before hand. But yes the crowds don’t half spur you on.

I learn't that tip early on. The first 10 minutes of a race were spent getting my legs warmed up. After a really easy 10 - 15 minutes jog I was ready to get straight into the race. Formula 1 cars start the race with warm engines, brakes and tyres. Another bonus is there is less chance of getting injured.
 
Running indoors or outdoors.

What we reckoning everyone???

Can't stand running on a treadmill anymore, hate it, right clothing on you'll be fine outdoors regardless of the weather, hat and gloves are key if it's cold but i find i usually end up taking them off anyway. Decent waterproof jacket is an essential through the winter though.
