Running thread

For all you seasoned long-distance runners.

Signed up to the Strava run a half every quarter. How often do you run the half marathon distance?

I've been loosely following a training plan to build up my distances, which is a 10-week plan but I feel that once I've got to the distance I could probably run a HM every month. Is that wise?

Cant see why it wouldnt be wise, Id say it would be down to how you feel. Personally I try to do that distance at least twice a week, and feel now that Im at that fitness level I can do that, but I also know that if I do shite all for a few weeks, then getting back to being able to do halves and more takes a bit of getting back into.

I would say find your own level and understand what you are training for. It sounds like you have done that because you mention a plan and a HM every month is not excessive but could be too much if running is for general health and fitness reasons. It would normally be too much for me these days. Gaz76 thinks it's fine, but it sounds like he is ultra marathon material. Marathon was the limit for me.

It seems like I'm recovering from hip injury. I managed 1.5 miles run on Monday and 2.5 today with no problems. Also did 20 miles cycling on Sunday. Hopefully able to manage 10k runs or 1 hour trails again in a few weeks which will do for me.

Haha ultra marathon, thanks for the compliment mate but its a long shot!!
As for the original question, maybe my mrs would be a better example, she did her first half mara in early January after following a training plan, amd she has knocked out 2 or 3 since then, Ive not heard her saying amything about injuries and the like, although saying that I tend to not hear her saying much at all!!
I listened to joe de sena on the rich roll podacst this morning hes done some crazy runs back to back, something that stuck out for me was, he said that back in the 17+1800s folk had to run for survival, and having rest days was hardly an option, our bodies are pretty much built to last the long haul, just have to build them strong enough first.
