Running thread

Ran the Valencia marathon this morning. Was hoping for 3h30 and it was going well until km 35. Fell apart at that point but managed to shuffle to the end in 3h34 (watch time). Chip time was 40 seconds slower but pretty happy with that seen as my previous PB was 3h53.

Definitely in the "never doing a marathon again" camp at the minute but that'll probably change in a few days when I get an email with a discount for next year's! Would love to do an ultra though.

Need a good rest now after all the training and it will be nice to have a lie in at the weekend.

Said it before but would definitely recommend Valencia if you're up for travelling for a marathon. Nice flat course and good weather/food/beer!
Great effort mate

Good effort mate, well done.

I had the same feeling when I completed my first marathon - Manchester, a year ago. I then learned that I had a medical condition throughout all my training and during the marathon, and thought I might like to give it another go, now that the condition is fixed.

Unfortunately, I now have knee pain, and I'm not running. I'm concerned my football and running days might be over. Hope not though.
Fingers crossed not mate

That's a fantastic achievement! Nice work.

I'm struggling to get out at the moment. To be frank, my mental well-being tends to take a hit at this time of year. Currently lying in bed on my phone when I should be en route to work... Will get up in a minute.

Need to get the legs moving as I believe that physical fitness and good mental health go hand-in-hand.
Yeah you're not alone with this one, it's a hard time of year. Like you say, try and get out. Hopefully any run will trigger the motivation again.

I used to have the same issues when I was working, especially when I left & returned home in the dark. It really used to get me down.
Now in retirement, I'm in the lucky position to set my alarm to coincide with sunrise, and go out for my runs at the time of day that suit me in terms of temperature & daylight.
One thing I'm currently struggling with is the cold air temperature on my lungs. I don't want to wear more layers as I get very sweaty very quickly. Maybe a longer warm up may help?

Missed the Park Run on Saturday (first on a long time I've missed one).
Mate I run them with was away and the running club were running at a different location (tourism PRs).

I'm feeling the cold at the moment so my body seems to be going in hibernation mode (naturally of course).
Woke up Saturday morning and my body simply couldn't move so I ditched it (you know, listen to your body and all that).
I did make a run later though (ran over to the kids with a heavy back pack with my stuff in).
Running club tonight but my running pizazz is still way off.
I could do with going back up to 10k, 15k and half marathons soon. I think that would help.

Does anyone do swimming here? I'm trying to kick start an earl morning pre work swim routine. Managed a few but not fully dialled in yet.

Hi mate. I'm a regular swimmer (2 or 3 times a week). I'm not particularly fast but can keep going for a while, usually doing 80-90 lengths of breaststroke in 60-70 minutes. I find it really relaxing & it helps me to clear my mind.
In the warmer months I like to do outdoor lido swims when I can just to keep things interesting & to feel the sun on my skin.

That’s some good swimming time there mate.

Hoping it tones me ip a little (complimenting all the other stuff I do) as well as kick starting my day.

It can be relaxing too although it can lush the cardio if you want it too.

I grew up a a swimmer (probably why I’ve still got those swimmers shoulders today!).
