Running thread

Great effort mate considering the pain. I've been there before, and only when it happens do you realise just how far that final 10 miles is!!! Well done for getting it finished. Any mistakes made in hindsight or just one of those days? Got to say when I did the Manchester marathon last year, I learnt from a lot of my past mistakes and whilst it still fucking hurt over the last 5 miles. It was a lot more manageable!
Been there, done that. But got injured / cramped after 2 miles and then realised how far that final 24 miles is....

Did my final long run today before London Marathon. No reoccurrence of hip injury but didn't reach 20 miles (managed 19.2) due to feeling sick and completely fatigued. I was a little surprised by this but putting it down to a combination of: struggling to completely shake off a cold, working nights over the weekend, being slightly overdressed as expected it to be far colder, the route being muddy/hilly and the lemon/ginger carb snack being disgusting.

Now officially on my taper, including a trip to Wembley the day before the race..

After 2 injuries to my back I decided to just do the 'suggested runs' on my Garmin watch for the past 10 weeks and they are pretty much all 'Base' runs. I've never done these runs at all previously and was thinking of sacking it off as I couldn't see the benefit of just running at 140bpm all the time and only at 9 and 10 minute miles. Whilst also seeing my predicted v02 decline from a 'Superior' 54 down to a depressing 48.

Did my first ever Park Run at the weekend and averaged 7.08 min miles so to my surprise I think it does work. V02 increased back up to 49 on Sunday. Think I'll stick with it until I've done 12 weeks base training and then start doing one of the half marathon plans which should introduce a lot more anaerobic stuff.

Stretford Parkrun in 30:34 today - my first 5km since 11 March, also Stretford Parkrun.

That's almost a month out with injury. Arthritis in the hip, which was really painful, but thankfully is easing off a bit now.

I miss going out for short runs. Miss the feeling of slightly tired legs after a run, although that is back now. Today was tough, having lost a lot of fitness, but hopefully I'll be able to get out more in the coming weeks.

Well played, mate. It's always tricky to regain fitness after an injury enforced break
I'll be doing Stretford next Saturday pre match if you want to say hello.

Good conditions today and remarkably wiped almost a minute off last weeks Park Run averaging 6:52 min/miles. Wanted to do sub 7s so pleased with that and my watch was telling me to do a recovery run today after quite a hard session yesterday. Starting to think a sub 21 minute run is doable. Set off a bit too quickly (6.39 for first mile) as it was messy at the start last week so I'll hopefully pace it a bit better in the future.

That would be nice. I do Stretford whenever I can at the moment and should be there next week, as long as it's not pouring with rain.

Light showers currently forecast for next Saturday. Just PM me during the week if you're intending to run. I'll make sure I'm wearing something distinctive & City related!
