Running thread

Ran 5km on the treadmill yesterday, felt fine but the inside of my lower tibia is tender, not sure if it's shin splints but I think it might be. Bit worrying with Manchester Marathon on the horizon.

Trying to take it easy but the urge to run is getting to me.

Maybe stay off the treadmill with that kind of niggle, pounding that hamster wheel can't be good, maybe try some calf sleeves to take a bit of strain of your lower legs?

It was more of a test run, in general I've stayed off my legs just been doing some strengthening sessions in the gym.

Hadn't actually looked into calf sleeves, think they may help?

I hurt my calf about 2 years ago and I found sleeves helped me (along with massage ball and rest). I still wear the sleeve for every run

Any shoe recommendations?

I'm currently rotating between a paid of Novoblast 3s (623 km so far) and Nimbus 25s (173km).

I've ran 180k in Feb and 200k in Jan, so I definitely need to throw a third pair into the rotation. I have 6 races booked. I don't know whether to go all out and buy some plated race shoes (suitable for 10k, half and marathon), or to go for something cheaper that I can add to my rotation.

I'm really tempted to get some Alphafly 3s, but they're out of stock everywhere and I think you pay a lot for the Nike tick on the side. Endorphin Pro 4s look great but I never tried Saucony out previously. Or do I just stop being a knob head and buy some Novoblast 4s for ~£100 less?

I've got both the af3 and the nvb4 and would say your probably better off looking elsewhere, the nvb4 are just OK, and not much if any of an improvement on the 3's.
The Af3 are a weird one, they do give you good energy return, but I still can't figure out where the footstrike should be, and I'm not convinced they are the fastest for a man of my size(13st ish)
If you want to go quick, the saucony endorphin elite are rapid, the Asics metaspeed sky+ are also speedy, hard to tell between the two tbh.
I've just been looking at the endorphin pro 4 and they get great reviews so I'm tempted as well.
Asics are releasing the new metaspeed paris at the start of march but they seem to be only available in red so its a no from me, even though they will be a rapid shoe
