Running thread

Attention Parkrunners.

This little app (called Running Achievements) tracks all your Parkruns, and your progress on a whole host of Parkrun challenges, such as the Alphabet Challenge (complete a Parkrun at a venue for each letter). Or you can try the Ups and Downs Challenge (UKs ten most undulating events). There are loads.

Here are a few screens. Not sure if it's available for iPhones or the Nokia 3310. It's not the slickest phone app, but it's packed full of data.

Managed a 9.5 mile, sweaty run yesterday morning. First Sunday where it has felt like summer (which is a bit depressing). Anyway, invested in a recovery tub a few weeks ago and I must say that it seems to help with recovery, not as achy the day after and (fingers crossed) I have not had any niggles

Hey,

Does this track races in general aswell? Or just Park runs?

So what's everyone's shoe choice? I am lucky to be a neutral runner but I like a lot of cushioning so I was a long term user of Adidas Ultra-boost. They however got more and more heavy to such an extent I had to switch about 3 years ago to New Balance 1080s. Great trainers but again a bit heavy and the grips weren't as good as Adidas (continental rubber soles), so started looking at other brands. Tried the Asics Novablast 3, these are light and great for the dry (not too hot though as they are not that breathable) if you like cushioning but the grip in anything but dry is poor. so earlier on in the year I looked at Adidas Boston 12s. I have to say these are the best running shoe I have ever had, they are light, have energy rods so "give back" some bounce, have amazing grip and really feel secure. I use them on faster runs (5ks) and did my 9 miler in them on Sunday and my feet felt great at the end. The only downside is that the upper is not that hardwearing or even thick so they have started to wear where my big toe sits.

been historically going with Adidas, then a few years ago realised they were pants.

Went wiht a number of Nike trainrers, include road and trail Pegasus. Still got my road Pegasus trainers as i ran my fastest ever 10k race wearing them.

However, since getting covid, and having numerous niggles a few years back, I have had several Hoka trainers including the Rincon 2 and 3, along with the Clifton trainer.

Last year I purchased some New Balance Fresh Foam X 880v12 GORE-TEX trainers, been great wearing them continuously.

I did get the Hoka Rincon 4's last week, ran in them once at the weekend and feel quite nice.

I do like Hoka's shoes. I hadn't heard of the brand until I went to my local running shop (sadly now closed) and realised it was the only brand they stocked!
I've just worn out the tread on my first pair, so recently bought a pair of Cliftons direct from Hoka's website. Very comfortable they are too!

I got rid of the Cliftons recently due to them being quite hard when my foot hits the ground (I did two Half marathons wearing them last year)

Shame your local sports shop has closed down.

It was a local independent business called "Run and Ride". They still have a branch open in a small village next to Cannock Chase, but the Stafford town centre branch sadly recently closed.

Disappointing.

Is there non-local? Seems to be a fair few closing down across Manchester as well.

I go running with my local sports shop, thankfully
