Running thread

I used the treadmill yesterday as I slept in. I ran a slow 5k and felt great. I continued walking 5mph 3 minutes at 3% incline, 3 at 6%, 3 at 9%, 3 at 12% and 3 at 15% then 3 at 12, 9, 6, 3 and flat again. Even though I didn't think I was working particularly hard, I was drenched in sweat

I'm still getting out for a 5k 4 or 5 times a week. I'm happy with 4 but consider 5 days to be an exceptional week. I've had no alcohol since 30th May - at the start of lockdown I was drinking 3 times a week, 5 pints per time. A couple of pounds have come off. Could do with dropping a stone more and i'll be pleased with that.

Ran 11k this weekend. Decision time, do I target a new longer landmark or try to get faster at 5k/10k?
Try to combine the 2, one longer run a week plus a couple of shorter faster ones is what I’d aim for mate.

Ran 10 miles tonight, longest for a few weeks, doing a 5k on Saturday or Sunday.

I agree. You will run 10k faster if the distance is more comfortable. So if you can run 15k, then running 10k is easy and you can do it faster.

You won't have lost it. Just struggled to re-acclimatise. Some days you just don't feel it. Some of my best runs have been when I felt terrible for the 1st 10 minuted

I’ve had knee pain for a while now. I got put through to a physio (who after hearing my symptoms) he reckons it’s a thing called the iliotibial band syndrome. I’m sure many people on here know what it is but it’s the large tissue running from your hip to your knee. Apparently the knee pain is from the friction of the band to the lateral part of the knee from overuse

Anyone else suffered from this? I’ve been given. Selection of stretches to do daily for 3 months

If you’re exercising that much and not drinking, how much is a couple of lbs? Genuinely two or we’re you underplaying it? Or were you just not fat to begin with?

I only ask as when I cut out booze, I usually drop about 8 lbs a month (roughly a kilo a week).

At this point it's genuinely just a couple of lbs. I've only completely cut out alcohol since the weekend before last so i'm hoping to see some more positive changes soon. I'm not fat to look at but would be considered slightly overweight by BMI.

I know you lot have been dying for an update on how amazing my new running trainers are ;-)

Well I can inform you all that they still haven't arrived despite paying for the more expensive delivery option to get them quicker!!!!!

Just checked on the order and apparently as of last night they have now made the unearthly journey all the way from;

* Pause for dramatic effect *

Mainland Spain to the UK..........

Not much of a runner but doing 2-3k every other day with my 8 year old to keep him ticking over until his football and rugby gets back.

Last couple of times though my knee has ballooned up, this morning it’s almost seized up too, feels like it’s scraping something when I move it. Not really an option to visit a GP but it doesn’t seem like something I’d be able to run off - any amateur physios with any hints much appreciated...

Not checked into this thread for a while, suppose like everything in lockdown enthusiasm has drained away, lol.

Taking a day off today, but as it stands still doing 6 x 5k a week, I’m currently at 73 out of 83 runs since lockdown started. Legs are holding up pretty much ok, got a very very minor hamstring strain which would stop me sprinting but is fine for doing a 5k. Having had my week of taking it easy I’ve started cranking the pace back up again and am regularly doing them in around 26 mins which is good for me when my parkrun PB is 25.19.

running is interesting, i cant weight up whether there is net benefit with all things considered. You get a hell of a lot of wear and tear on your joints and muscles if youre road running, but i cant help but feel it must be generally good for your cardio health.

lots of us play footy and some of those who put in the biggest shifts on pitch arent really runners while one slightly overweight lad who plods about runs a marathon most weeks.
