Running thread

Not contributed to this thread for a while but kept reading it. Went back to work in August and got back on the ale on a daily basis. Still did a hill sprint workout, a 20 min 5k and 5 mile slow long run weekly but my heart rate was always in zones 3 or 4 for the longer runs.

So I've started the Maffetone method, previously discussed 100 pages ago. Doing it on the treadmill until I get used to it. First few times I seemed to be running 30 seconds then walking for a minute as my heart rate passed 130. Tonight I was running for a couple of minutes at a time before walking again. Obviously its very slow 14 minute miles, but it's very easy and I'm going to persevere with it.

Thanks to all the contributors to this thread who inspired me to restart my running a couple of years ago and kept me motivated during the 1st Lockdown

still running with these shin splints and hernia/hip area twinge.

actually beat my PB on the 5k on friday night. think running down a hill helped me cut off 2 minutes.

Off all week now due to a cancelled trip to Amsterdam so another run tomorrow. was planning on doing 20k in one go tomorrow but unsure if its a wise move.

See how i wake up tomorrow.

One thing I have found great in all this? went back on facebook and joined that Run Bitch Run group.

Very helpful and some funny stories
It’s fantastic and genuinely funny that group. Said this before but I’ll look at female runners in a different light after reading some of those stories!
5k yesterday morning then 8 miles tonight... just got to keep at it regardless of the weather as it’s one of the few things that are going to keep me sane!!
Absolutely mate - perfect antidote.

Wow. Yesterday 28 minutes for 2 miles keeping heart rate under 125 with plenty of stops and starts. Tonight 2 miles in 21 minutes, stopping only once after 14 minutes, to bring my heart rate back to 114. I know its not far, and not very fast but last week I couldn't do over 30 seconds without my HR reaching 125.

Thought I'd ask my question in here

Been given a free Fitbit Inspire and can't find the answer to my question (probably cause it's a stupid fucking question!)

But I'm completely new to them, how good are they? I'm going to use it to go out running but beyond that I'm not sure. Does my phone have to be with me if I go out running for it to work or get accurate info from it? That's what will put me off as I really don't want to be carrying my phone when I'm out, cheers!

someone I know used to do a lot of running for charity, he's now inside however, serving a full life sentence for two murders and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm. I'm sure the running kept his spirits up however.

Shouldn’t have to take your phone mate as it should upload after your run. Depends on the model I guess.

Had a decent month of running (136km) although not yet got the speed back in my legs.

Got a ten mile event on Sunday, with over 9 miles along the beach promenade, lets hope the wind is in my favour.

Much prefer this time of year to be out. Picked up a head lamp, from Amazon, for a tenner which has proved a great addition.

16 mile’s today. Feeling it tonight though!
Every long run my bowels play havoc after around 10 miles . Luckily I was near my house today but one day I’m gonna s**t myself. Going to have to carry an emergency pack of Imodium .
Have you tried fasted running? Obviously easier first thing in the morning

Anyone know any community/forum with people posting their daily run and fitness development/ weight loss?

Planning on starting running from tomorrow, COVID can't get me more depressed than what I already am. I need to start something.

I don't use it but I'm sure Strava records your activity and allows you to follow other people's runs

Yeah normally for a Sunday morning run I’ll just have a a pint of water beforehand. Won’t have any food and normally go toilet a couple of times before my run. (I think the constant bouncing on my lower gut brings up excess waste ) it’s a common problem runners trots and it does inhibit my runs . To be fair the previous night I have a couple of beers, so that doesn’t help

I got a Garmin Fenix 6 in January from Argos, but the contacts are corroding (despite having a cover over the contact points) and it is difficult to charge it up.

Luckily, Argos refunded my £599.99 yesterday. This was a welcome boost to my bank account, especially as the same watch is just £440 on Amazon, on a Black Friday deal.
