Running thread

Wouldnt say I follow a training plan as such, I run every day and try to keep the mileage quite high, long slow ones and say once a week a quickish one. Gave up the smokes about 7 months ago which has helped a lot.

Great to see lots of brilliant running going on in here.

I feel that my piriformis syndrome is improving a lot so I took a bit of a risk with a speed session today (first one in a long time).

Did 8 short hill repeats with a couple of extras on the way home.

Glad to say that there were no problems with the leg so hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel.

I will try a short threshold session this week as well, and see how that goes.

Previous best for 10k was 1:08 about 18 months ago..... managed to lose about 10kgs since then, and have been doing lots of walking and some shorter runs during the past few months. Got round to trying 10k yesterday and managed 56:33 and also get my 5k down to 26:55. Usually a bit of a 'clock' watcher when i'm running, but managed to avoid looking at my time until I was 9km in, realising I was going to smash 60 minutes made the last km rather pleasant!

I had a feeling based on average pace over 5-7km runs that sub 60 was possible. Not really got any other targets as such, although my previous and only ever attempt at a half marathon was 2:55 due to some ankle injury which made the run absolutely horrible (ran for charity otherwise would not have started), so perhaps doing another one to see what i'm capable of without an injury would be nice.

But for now, just getting out 2-3 times a week to maintain fitness and help keep the weight off is what feels good.

Another 4 miles this morning but once again struggling for breathe at times, need to slow for a minute to catch it then set off again, waiting on a doctor call later, hopefully it's just down to something trivial. Haven't been ill at all but maybe being vegetarian is having an affect, low iron or something, or maybe i just need to change my diet slightly......... fucking hope that's all it is!!

Hopefully nothing to sinister mate, with the veggie iron thing, Ive been plant based now for a while and just take a b12 twice a day, and theres loads of other foods high in iron, I whack spinach and kale in a smoothie every morning, dark choclate is also good for iron

Just had an email re Therabody massagers - £320 FFS!!! Now I know how they can afford to become an "official partner" of City.

Does anyone use these and are they any good?

Yes hopefully mate, i eat plenty of greens, etc and had no issues after becoming veggie for the first 12 months or more but the last couple i've just been lacking the energy... never needed the B12 either as far as i'm aware, eat plenty of cheese to make up for it lol

I use a taotronics one I got off amazon, its decent enough and saves foam rolling which is a pain in the arse if you ask me.
The one I got was about £70 but theres loads on amazon which I suspect come from the same chinese factory with a different badge on them, not had a go of a therabody one but Im guessing theres not much difference apart from the price tag, its basically just a jack hammer for the legs, the mrs loves it for some reason and often disappears with it for hours on end!!

Went out to try and do a 10K PB at lunch. The watch (which I rely on too much for pace really) wasn't getting a good GPS signal so I set the run on strava just in case and got going. Was hoping to be around the 49 minute mark. Watch was telling me I was at 5:30 km pace and I was thinking... this feels tough though... got about 5.5km in and just blew up and had to stop. Checked strava and I'd been going at about 4.40km and ended up doing my third best 5K time. Not a wasted run as such but really disappointing and it was a hard hard walk/jog back the remaining 4.5km.

I've defo got a quicker 10K in me, but going to abandon the attempt for a couple of weeks and just take it slow. Done a lot of speed work and hill sprints recently so need to slow it down and hit the aerobic workouts again.

Been doing really well with the running and now developed chub rub in my inner thighs, any recommendations to relieve?

Hope all's well with the doc.

I'm plant based as well (have been for 25 years) and iron, B12 etc. have always been good. Houmous and, as you say, leafy greens are high in iron.

Like you say, it's hopefully something trivial that can be easily addressed through minor adaptations.

Stretched the legs a bit after Sunday's long run - 5k at 7:55 (24:53) and HR of 149. Struggled with heavy legs for the 1st mile but enjoyed the last 2. It was almost tropical compared the recent weeks - Sunday dressed for an arctic expedition, today shorts & t-shirt.

I managed 14k yesterday, first kilometre uphill, then relatively flat thereafter. The weather was much warmer than the last couple of weeks, which made for a nice enjoyable run.

My running shoes will need replacing soon though. It would be nice to buy from a shop rather than taking a chance with online buying.
