Running thread

Slow and steady wins the race. The best times are normally achieved with an even or negative split, although I found the latter is difficult to achieve. Each half of the race in 55 minutes would be ideal.
This is often claimed but it actually doesn't stand up to scrutiny. The majority of records and PBs have been found to have been run with a slight positive split - the second half taking about 5% slower than the first.

So are you going to stop or have a day off after this nice round number or carry on?

I will carry on my running. Just not commit to every day. Will definitely go my run club in week and parkruns Saturdays and long one Sundays - if I feel like it.

Fair enough. My marathon PBs had slightly positive splits. I don't know for other distances but I suspect they were slight positive splits too. If I had achieved negative splits I wonder if the overall time would have been quicker? Impossible to know. It is difficult to do negative splits, and maybe more natural to do positive splits. Maybe that's why most records and PB have positive splits?

Perhaps even paced mileing is a better way of putting it? Or at least aim for that?

Yeah, it's hard to be conclusive. There will be so many factors that affect it and it may well be different for different people. I imagine most would agree that at least a fairly even pace for the whole race is a wise strategy; a slight positive or negative split probably doesn't make much difference, as long as the runner knows what they are capable of, has got their maths right and they stick to their plan.

@gaz76 I went with your strategy given the opening 5 miles - a couple of blips and had to dig in to keep the pace below 8:27. Target 1:50; previous PB 1:54; finished in 1:46:28. Absolutely nothing in the tank at the finish line. Splits below:
