Running thread

Running is so hard on the body. Knees and shins in particular. And arches too.

As a 60+ year old, I'm simply walking now when I can't...

Swim. Swimming is awesome. No stress on the body and even more cardo.

I do both. I generally swim twice a week and run three times a week with two recovery days built into each week.
I used to find the running hard on my knees, but my stretching routine before and after runs seems to have sorted that out
The swimming definitely burns more calories but the running is more of a mental strength activity. I actually enjoy doing both for different reasons.

Peel Park parkrun today in 30:33. It was my first time there. Took me ages to find the car park, which I had to pay for because I didn't have a Parkrun token to display in my windscreen.

I'll definitely go here again - a really nice course on good paths through parkland, partly alongside the beautiful River Irwell, with a short length of dirt track (which might get muddy on a wet day).

Yeah, the area through the trees and across the top of the football pitches gets super muddy after sustained rain.
It's a very pleasant park though and the marshals are super friendly.

5.5km in about 30mins. Longest run for distance and time since Chester 10k in March (ran with pain through that one too).

Probably the first run over 5km since January that's been pain free, all because my patella was moving incorrectly, mad really.

Following the 10% rule, plan is to get back to parkrun in a couple of weeks and then look for some events around Xmas time.

Long way off targeting pb's again but if I can just build for the next months I'll be happy. Hopefully avoid all the viruses going around.

I've had a break from running for the past 3 months, I've had achilles tendonitis for the past year. I pulled the trigger and bought some new running shoes from an independent shop recently having had my running style assessed etc. Early days obvs but they're feeling great and keeping my tendonitis at bay whilst racking up the milage.

Nice one, what shoes did yer get

Triumphs are ace, I've got a pair that have well over 1000km done and they still going strong
That's good to hear pal! They're the comfiest runners I've ever had so far. I used to run in Nike free runs which were great. In recent years I've ran in entry level trainers and quickly learnt you need to look after your feet and find shoes with the correct support etc.

Has anyone tried the adidas Adios Pro 3's for a half-marathon distance? Would you recommend if so?

I'm also looking in to my every day neutral runners, always used Nike Pegasus mainly here, but anyone got any other recommendations?

cant do 10k today, seriously hungover and ache all over, failed challenge.
Fuck that!!! Get yer soft southern shandy drinking arse out there and get it finished, crissake man, no point in even starting it if you are going to play the fanny card at the end.
Down some water, get a carld shower and get the fuck out there

Funny you should ask, the adiós pro 3 just landed in my stable today, will let you know how they go.
As for an everyday shoe, the pegs have gone to shit in the last few years, I do like the Boston 12 for an everyday jobby.
Sportshoes have a decent 20% off if you download their app, brings the Boston 12 down to about a ton which is a steal.

Thanks guys , I can barely move up the stairs - really feel broken today. 11 10ks in a row and a big heavy drinking session till 4am taken its toll . I can’t do it :(
