Aye the YouTubers that talk a load of shite with their "I ran a marathon with no training", no they didn't it took them ages as they walked most of it.Just not worth the risk, it sounds great to the untrained viewer which is why they end up picking such extreme challenges.
A seasoned ultra runner doing 5 ultras in 5 days doesn't have that shock and awe unfortunately.
I see it on YouTube all the time; 'I ran a marathon without training', 'I did... without training'. I guess it's to appeal to the viewer that they can do it too but just has injury written all over it.
Wilmslows a decent half, think I've done the last five, starts up a bit of a hill then down for a bit so be careful not to get carried away, it does get a bit conjested for the first 3/4km but spreads out after that, usually a decent t-shirt(apart from last year's white abomination).Been a quiet week or so in here for me, not been quiet running wise though. Ran Chester 10k last Sunday, did it with no taper and my legs felt it 3-4k in so that was a bit of a disaster, got just under 46mins when I was aiming for 42ish.
Ran a 5k race yesterday which had a steep hill in the middle in 20:20ish, so looking good for sub 20. End of April was my goal but probably within reach now, can't test until April though as I have Wilmslow half on Sunday.
I've just watched an AMAZING YT video that I was, honestly, really impressed by.
There are many places I could have posted this, but I chose this in the end.
I hope you guys watch it all.
For me, it was riveting viewing...
Good video! Very interesting stuff.
Clearly the guy has done well; he succeeded in losing a lot of weight, very quickly. No criticism from me.
However, I think there is a question to raise about the method he used, and how healthy it is. Throughout the video, the issue of rest is raised. Unless he's being disingenuous in the vid, he appears to have just not rested over the 100 days. Why? And why did he not completely burn out?
He also says at one point, "A lot of the days, I didn't eat - just so I could see some progress." Is that progress?
As I say, the guy has done well - but I think it's pretty clear that he will have burnt a lot of muscle which isn't the healthiest of approaches!
Anyone suffered with plantar fasciitis and found a good way of dealing with it whilst trying to get out of the house and put one foot in front of the other?
Ive been suffering with it for 9 months or so now, seen the doctor and had a 5 minute chat with a physio who gave me 3 exercises to do, done them daily for over 6 months and havent progressed at all, if anything its gotten worse, I can still walk decent distances (the pain tends to subside whilst walking and comes on when i stop) but jogging is constant pain
any races anyone signed up for?
Had a full list of local ones I wanted to do, but just removed any I had planned upto May. Not worth rushing into it too quick and reinjuring myself

Ah there's a couple I might give a go in there.
There's also Trafford 10k and Knutsford 10k in August and September.
There's also a few that the local running clubs put on too.
Targeting any race in particular?
Just the Great North Run in September for the aforementioned charity reasons. I'm quietly hopeful of being in decent shape by then, in which case I'd like to sign up for some more spring events, possibly including a marathon (although I've no idea which one). We'll see how it goes; I enjoy training in the warmer and lighter months so hopefully I can make enough progress.any races anyone signed up for?

I think you're wise to avoid taking risks and rushing things; just take your time and see where you're at. Training and getting fit is a long game.
Yep, been signed up for a while. Got a ballot place but using it to raise money.you signed up already?
yeah, think I've done the right way yeah. I'm sure Il pick up another injury or two in the coming months.
