Running thread

It's interesting you should say that, as i was going to ask something similar in here the other week

Would be keen to hear about nice scenic routes, ideally paved areas rather than trail

Happy to drive a bit, live in Hazel Grove so perhaps somewhere within 30 mins or so

Weird that I've not got up to lyme park yet, can drive up towards it in about 10 mins, and would be a mile run to get into the park itself!

I did part of Longdendale Trail today, but it’s already pretty slippy with recent rain and leaves starting to cover parts of the route.
Middlewood way is great (think you do that anyway), but again, getting to the time of year where it becomes a bit more challenging with the weather.

I would also like to find some new routes to run that are paved, guessing places such as Heaton Park are ok, although fairly hilly.

I’m pretty fortunate that I can get out on my lunch most days if I want to, but certainly less keen on running on the busy roads near me (Mottram, Hyde) in the darker mornings/evenings.

How's everyone getting on as it gets darker and colder? I guess it's not properly cold yet, but it will be soon.

I've done basically nothing since I did my achilles in. I'm very pissed off about this as I really want to be getting in good shape. I've decided to try out the bike and see if that works, so wish me luck... I will report back.

Shite luck that with the Achilles mate, but it's great that your not just retiring to the couch, keep at the bike, movement is everything, plus when your Achilles is sorted you won't have to work as hard to get back to running fitness.

Dublin marathon for me on Sunday, going to be a slow one, fitness has nosedived since August, put on an extra 8kg over the summer and it sure as shit feels like it when running!!

Certainly felt the impacts of the darkness, but have quite enjoyed the temperature so far, feels a little easier to breathe!

Ive carried on getting out a few times a week, mainly in the mornings, and I've got a head torch arriving today which tells you it's own story

Still not lost the appetite to get out, I think it's just the jump out of bed that's certainly disappeared!

Sarah Perry has just broken the women’s Backyard Ultra WR - 95 laps (nearly 400 miles)!!!! Previous best and UK record was only fifty something laps. Incredible achievement. The race started on Saturday and there are still 9 runners going…

Worth dipping in just before each hour is up to see the ‘action’ and current remaining runners

Some mad stats in this article regarding the winner Phil Gore..... his last 'yard' for example was done in 37:03 (6.67km)!!

Cheers mate, I shall enjoy after the run is done!!
Dublin is quite a hard one to get into on the sly, had a gfa so sneaked in.
Your out of the country that much that I'm surprised you don't go for tax status mate!!

Dublin sounds like a great event Gaz. Can't wait to hear how you get on. If you're not currently in peak form, is this one about enjoying the experience? The be sure (to be sure) to celebrate with a Guinness or two.

I think the achilles is starting to feel like it's on the mend, but I won't be getting carried away so will stick with the bike for the moment. Yesterday's ride was good - I only went out for half an hour but I'm glad I went, and I'm pleased that I can do it with no pain. Maybe a week or so on the bike and then try out a short jog... We'll see.

Yeh I would stick to the bike for as long as possible mate, us runners sure do like to rush back from injury! (Spoiler, I wouldn't stick to the bike, I would rush back and make the injury worse!)
Even half an hour is better than sitting and scrolling mate, any movement is always good.

Dublin wise, yeh I hear a lot of folk say enjoy the experience, never could get my head around that, I enjoy it when the jobs done, I just hope they have enough Guinness!!

It does indeed. Quite unique in that respect, but unfortunately quite a congested start as I got stuck behind a group of Chorlton yummy mummies more interested in chatting about what they had with their quinoa last night rather than concentrating on running!
Haha, that sounds like Cum-Hardy alright! At least you completed it mate. Turned my ankle running over uneven ground in a new pair of trainers midweek, so I was only on spectator duties this morning - and I’d forgotten how little fun it was to do that. Hopefully back on it next week.

Just thinking on about parkruns I’ve done in relation to ‘other tracks’ apart from Stretford, Ormskirk starts next to a running track but iirc they don’t let you on it, and at York I think, where you actually do 5 x 1km laps around a cycle/kart track, all tarmac but laid out like an F1 circuit.

Morden parkrun, official time of 34.29. Was aiming for anything under 36. Was awake from 4 am my anxiety finding every reason not to go. I even turned alarm off which had been set for 7.15. I got up at 7 to feed cat and had breakfast. Went for bus as usual which broke down at the first stop. Was about to turn back and another bus turned up. So glad I went now

Brilliant stuff mate, what it’s all about, fantastic.

And at least next Saturday morning it won’t still be dark at 7.15! … but it will be at 4 ;-(

Bit Random but interesting insight into the mind of a Marathon runner...
I've done quite a bit of running over the years inc 1500 metres races etc,but mainly just to keep fit for Football.
I've never done a Marathon, never fancied it ( scared of the pain !) my good mate who runs the Chesterfield branch City supporters club is about to do one ...good luck Mick, not for me tho .

Nor me. I've done a few half marathons and no desire to go further. After my first one in London guy goes you'll be ready to step up to marathon next and I replied I have no intention of completing another lap of that course again even if I could
