Running thread

Did 22k on Saturday, not the best run, struggled from about 13k but more of a mental battle. Adding 20k to that feels pretty daunting to be honest.....
It's supposed to feel daunting mate, if it was easy every old mug would be doing it.
You've got loads of time to build into the extra, by April you will be more confident

I only run to keep up some basic fitness for outdoor 6. a side footy..

Was my 1st match of the new year a week last Thursday and id prepared for it by doing my usual circuit runs, stretching and lifting light weights ...all went well, I played ok scored two cracking goals and most importantly, avoided any injuries...

Moving on to last Thursday night......id done no running at all in preparation, dark nights and morning lazy attitude, partying.any excuse not to go for a run..
Well..for the first time ever,I started to ache during a match ,never mind after....in all my years playing footy I'd ever experienced that.....a wake up call. I was crap, off the pace ,and badly missed 3 presentable chances to score when I did my trademark late. run into the box unmarked.
Embarrassing efforts screwed wide...

At my age ,late 50s it was dangerous on reflection to just turn up and play without any training and I was lucky I avoided any injury tbh

It's getting harder to motivate myself to get out there, but hopefully tomorrow I'll find the energy to complete my 30/40 min circuit drill ...don't want to put myself thru aching whilst playing again..
I actually thought of calling it a day I was that bad.

Anyone doing the Manchester half in May?
I've entered it but hoping City are in Budapest that weekend!

I've got Liverpool half in March, I had about 20 days off through having shin splints on my left leg then getting a bad chest. Back out running now again, will be out 3/4 times a week hopefully.

My mate has offered me full marathon place, I'm tempted but need to up my long runs to prepare. Longest run has been 13 miles then 9 miles. Need to go a mile further each week, I fancy completing it no time just better than 5:21 which I did in 2018 with not near enough training. I've ran 100km+ since May time so I think I've got in me just to get around aslong as I run long each week. Is this doable?

Totally doable mate, just keep chipping away at the mileage and you will get there

Nope, it's true, I've followed her everyday since the start.
Ran with her at some run club thing last year, some going that she managed to get it done after only starting up running not so long ago.

That's my point, in that heat, humidity, potential human (rather than animal) danger. I'm calling BS on this.

Its soul destroying playing knowing you are miles off it fitness wise and only yourself to blame when you play shit. I play vets (I'm 50) and when I'm fit and running regularly i always pretty much play well still and can hold my own in centre mid. Unfit, its horrible and not enjoyable. Keeping running in winter is always my nemesis, i just hate the cold and rain and always struggle with it. Got a vets game tonight and know its going to be a slog.

Good luck with tonight's game !

I played last night in the freezing cold of a Derbyshire night.
I've only played in more freezing conditions once before that I can remember.
I did only a bit of running prior to the match and played just about ok,and most importantly no injury ,so I'm ok with that .sort of..

Just need to get out there on a more regular basis to step up from mediocrity! Love playing the game but not if I can't make a valid contribution.

Not been on this thread for a while. I’m on my 6th week of doing 25 miles a week. Feeling great again and I’m having no niggles. Running daily with good form and doing a bit of Yoga after my runs seems to be working. Still struggling to shift the love handles though despite feeling fit and eating well most days. City’s midweek games are not helping me though can’t help but having 5 or 6 beers watching the blues with a cheeky McDonald’s on the way back ;)
