Russian invasion of Ukraine

That wasn't the inference from Biden the other week when the discussion of dirty weapons being used by the Russians was mentioned
Biden is not NATO with respect.
The press got confused whether it was seen as a NATO or US response.
He was vague using the term “respond in kind”.
I think it was more a warning than a definitive voice of agreed NATO response.

Herr Merkel made Germany reliant on Russia for energy and fuel.

Now politicians are dressing up this disaster by pushing for "green initiatives" using climate change as an excuse to move away from her balls up.

Germany has sent circa £30bn to Russia since the invasion of Ukraine.

If a country is reliant on imported fossil fuels such as oil and gas, then the logical solution is renewable energy solutions and nuclear power. No one is holding anyone hostage over wind farms.

Putin has massive military resources - this could go on for years.

He doesn't actually though.

That's whats become apparent with this redeployment of troops to the east of Ukraine.

Any strong military would take those battered and demoralised troops that failed to take Kyic out of action for weeks, rebuild them as BTG's, rearm them and let them recover. Instead they are getting 2 days R+R in Russia or Belarus and then going straight back in.

That's because Putin doesn't have anyone else to send in, he's used at least 75% of his standing forces in Ukraine.

Sanctions are impacting Russias ability to repair and replace lost military hardware. Ukraine will have a never ending supply and support from the west. If they can hold on for the next few weeks then you feel they will hold the current lines. The big change needs to be giving Ukraine offensive weapons rather than defensive only if they are to have any chance of pushing Russia back to their border. The Czechs are showing the way by sending tanks, obviously Ukrainian troops are well versed in only certain military hardware but was pleased to read earlier the US are training some Ukrainian troops on new suicide drones.

Lifting the thinking above the tragic cost in Ukraine to the global landscape this is a good way of the west testing their military hardware against Russia by arming a well disciplined and effective Ukrainian army with a bit of everything. Even now you have to think the way the Russian stuff has been wiped by west defensive weapons would make China think twice about the effectiveness of their own shit given they copied Russian stuff which has proven to be…well a bit shit.
Is the russian hardware shit or is it just that the guys, probably conscripts by the sounds of it, cant use it. It seems like the Ukraines have got the weaponry, the knowledge, the ability, the training and more importantly the will to use it effectively.

The Russians produce some good kit. Certainly their latest generation anti-aircraft missile systems are very good. Unfortunately a lot of their stuff is ageing and barely functional, and they seem to have a different approach to engineering than we do in the West.

I think by and large, the bulk of the Russian military hardware is vast amounts of post WW2 artillery style weapons (old tanks, howitzers etc) and they dont have so much of the modern more devastating weapons which are needed against a well equipped Ukranian army

It will be a variety of causes, but a lack of active protection on their tanks is allowing anti tank missiles to have a field day. Their lack of air superiority is down to the vulnerability of their aircraft- wrong weapons for the terrain perhaps.

Drones are proving effective- I think the west will be working hard to create counter measures.

You get the feeling that it's more basic, which on a battlefield could be a good thing when you're dealing with what seems to be conscript or not very well trained soldiers.
