Russian invasion of Ukraine

You would be hard pushed to find any Russian who thinks Ukraine is really an independent sovereign nation. See also Moldova, Georgia and, maybe, the Baltic states.
China considers Taiwan to be part of China, not to mention the South China Sea.
May you live in interesting times.(Old Chinese curse).
Maybe when the people you are trying to liberate/unify with start shooting you in the face and firing missiles at you instead of welcoming you with open arms, it's a sign that they don't want to be part of your empire and you should fuck off.

Just a thought.

On the one hand the behaviour of many German high ranking politicians and many business leaders in respect to Ukraine is appalling.
On the other, the fact that elected members of the German Parliament can hold the German Government's feet to the fire is a magnificent endorcement of democracy.

These are the monsters we're facing.

They're Nazis and they need dealing with the same way we dealt with Hitler and his mob - by the world coming together and telling them to get to fuck.

There's no real comparison between China/Taiwan and Russia/Ukraine.

China/Taiwan is more comparable to North/South Korea, East/West Germany (1945-91) or North/South Vietnam (1949-1975), where a war has ended in a position where there has been a partition that divided one people into two countries.

Ukraine has been part of lots of different empires over the centuries and most of its people are distinct from Russians - different language, culture etc. The same applies to Georgia, Moldova and the Baltic states.
The similarity is in the way Russia and China view the other party.

Looking forward to the Ukrainians getting to grips with their new counter battery radars and howitzers now more than half the initial wave have arrived, some of this kit will likely be able to operate outside the effective range of Russian artillery and their counter battery radar. Especially if the French and Germans send their COBRA counter battery radar.

See how much the Russians like it when they shell a town / Ukrainian position and within a minute get counter struck with accurate incoming artillery fire and they just have to take it … or pull back. And to cap it all Ukraine will hopefully get a continuous supply of this stuff.

It’s all history , going back to when your countries entity was at the heights of its powers.
If ukraine, belatedly, hadn’t been armed and supported - Moldova, Georgia, Baltic states, Poland, Finland, the ‘Stan republics, and…. Alaska (slightly tongue in cheek) … would likely have followed.

still, we have ‘rule brittania’ to return to…

We've all seen this one before - I have been truly inspired by russia's unimaginative approach to their strategies - copy and paste. Really can't see how they can open a front in Moldova as they are stretched as it is and will be sandwiched between the Romanians and Ukranians. Romanians are very close on many levels to the Moldovans so would expect alot of assistance on the ground if it were to open up there and they have no love for the russians.
