Russian invasion of Ukraine

Just had a catch-up on the BBC News site. Pretty depressing reading all in all. Seems the Russians are beginning to turn things around in the Donbas and the Ukrainians are on the retreat.
The Russians are obliterating everything in their path as they push forward . Maybe the Ukrainian military have thought about this and have decided to use the same tactics they did in the north around Kiev . Save men . Take out their armoured columns and supply lines and push the Russians back that way ?

That would probably be sensible - allow them to make incursions so they stretch themselves out...then pick off wherever along the line is vulnerable, fragmenting the forces and creating more of the same supply line issues. Grinding war of attrition.
Setting the traps...

Just watched Clive Myrie's interview with the Russian Ambassador to UK. Clearly he was so uncomfortable faced with the questions and evidence Clive presented, but he has been sanitised by Putin to tow the party line.

Astonishing what excuses Russia are proffering for their justification

I thought Russias objective was to Liberate Donbas not Obliterate it? So much for the 'Russians' living there
Let them obliterate it then sue for peace and give it to them, who the fuck will live there and Putin won’t rebuild it. Then get Ukraine in NATO and put a big fuck of American base next to it.

Its all been at a massive cost though - whether Putin wants to believe it or not this iteration of Russian conventional forces has proven to be a sham - Russia has become too "western" - the troops have less gut for the fight - the equipment has been run down and not well maintained once you get behind the shiny bits at the front and the generals have paid a price for poor comms. Once Putin has gone there will be a reckoning when the Army turn on the politicians who have raked the cream off the top of military and equipment budgets and left them exposed to near defeat by little Ukraine.

Just watched a youtube clip whereby the Ukrainians dig holes in the road, the Russians come along in their tanks, personel carriers etc, see the freshly dug road and go round it, only to find the real mine takes them out on the verge. I suppose the Ukrainians only have to do this a couple of times to cause minor chaos within an armoured column. The SAS used similar tactics in Iraq....minimum expenditure maximum efficiency

The Russian gains being made in the Donbas are at an incredible cost in men and materials. They never get more than artillary range from the start point and are losing many, many, many more men than the Ukrainians for every inch gained - the land they gain is also scorched earth.
Here is a pretty good description of what is actually happening.

the good news is a three pronged Ukrainian counter offensive is beginning near Kherson.
