An administrative worker at the plant told CNN earlier today that “everything is already ok”.

The plant employee, who has not been named, said:

Yesterday there was no electricity, no water, nothing. But everything is already ok, the men [operational staff] at the NPP [Nuclear Power Plant] are just smarties and heroes.

They added that with “shelling around the station and the city, smoke from fires, dust from the ash dump of a thermal power plant”, that the “situation sometimes looks like the end of the world” at the plant."

It’s not 100k ‘Russians’ though, it’s 97.5k minorities from ‘backwaters’ and 2.5k euro Russians. If the body bags had been coming back to the ‘elite’ euro Russians in the numbers that the rest of the country has suffered, I’m sure they’d be more prominent and public rhetoric against the war.

It basically consists of dehumanizing an out-group to the point where you are perfectly willing to commit atrocities against them. Ukrainians = Nazis/Terrorists does the job in Russia.

What is disturbing about the documentary is that it demonstrates how we all might be susceptible, even if we think we are immune. My parents are from Belarus but it was part of Poland at the time. Sent to Siberia by the communists as landowners. If anyone is interested look up Kresy Siberia. I speak to them about their experiences which were harsh. They were allowed to leave Siberia as deemed Poles and males joined the 6th army at Monte Cassino.
When I read this forum I kind of despair. Many people dying on both sides. In truth I hate politicians. Normal people caught up in stupid wars when diplomacy should prevail.

Indeed, the politicians cause these wars and it is the people in the countries who suffer. An absolute disgrace.Historically Russia was in three parts, Russia, Little Russia(Ukraine), and White Russia(Belarus..that translates as White Russia). Brothers. Indeed Ukraine had more animosity to Poland for many years as they were regarded as serfs by the Polish Lithuanian empire. Some of you old buggers may remember the film Taras Bulba ?? It was always on TV as a child..I just can not see how a neutral corridor from Finland to the Black Sea would not solve this mess.Heavens, Covid, now this war, inflation, what a mess.

The problem with diplomacy is that it requires trust at the very heart if its discussions and ultimate agreements.

Even if Ukraine were to cede some parts of its captured territory during the invasion(why should they though?) what assurances can the russians give the Ukrainians? They have demonstrated from the outset since the annexation of Crimea to today that their word means absolutely nothing.

putin built his career from his early days as a KGB desk jockey in Dresden using lies and mis direction to get him where he is today - he isn't changing his winning formula now for anyone.
