Russian invasion of Ukraine

Are they getting F16’s ? I know it’s possibly the simplest western fighter/ground attack aircraft, but it’s still very different to the soviet/Russian aircraft their infrastructure, training and actual pilots are used to.
I thought some of the Eastern European nations were giving ukraine some of their soviet/Russian planes/spares/weapons?
I doubt they will and F-16's are a poor choice really. They're good in dogfights but they aren't very capable in terms of bombs and air support is what Ukraine really needs to take a lot of territory. It might help give them the edge in the air but Russia can turn the taps on that anytime they want, there hasn't really been an air battle to win. They'd also have to be based somewhere where they'd be vulnerable to Russian cruise missiles.

It's amazing how this war has changed modern warfare because a year ago we'd all say that the next war will be over within days because of the air forces and technology involved but it has been the opposite. Everything about this war has been about territory, ground forces, people and the capability of vehicles like tanks.

Ukraine have been very successful because they are really well trained and well resourced on the ground even despite having less people. Russia meanwhile has zero experience and they've been constantly bogged down due to poor tactics and poor equipment at the lowest level.

It's incredible that in the 21st century the army of the worlds 5th largest defence spender invaded a smaller neighbouring country and was slowed and frustrated because their tanks and vehicles ran out of petrol!

According to this report in CNN the Russians retreated from Lyman without sufferng major loses in and around Lyman contrary to reports that the Russians were surrounded and had suffered heavy losses in and around Lyman.

The ghostly emptiness of the streets of Lyman in eastern Ukraine belies this city’s strategic significance.

There are no signs of Russian troops at all on Sunday — few damaged Russian tanks, or Russian dead, or Russian prisoners. Members of the Ukrainian National Guard from the Dnipro-1 unit hover in small numbers on some streets.

The occasional rattle of gunfire, or thud of artillery, pierces the silence. A few locals emerge, riding bicycles, searching for food, bewildered about what is happening.

“One day I wear one cap, another day a different cap,” said one woman in tears, pretending to take off a hat.

I’d say this war has been the 1st war that drones are the main weapon in multiple roles.

When corruption pervades each stratum of society, it really should come as no surprise?

Some defence person on Russian television last night was basically calling for the complete overhaul of Russian society just so that they could 'win'.

That's true. The road and fields out of Lyman to the previous front lines are a different story though - a scrap yard and slaughter house spring to mind.
