Russian invasion of Ukraine

It's comical how high on vodka the Russian army is..

I was just wondering how these idiots would explain that to their Commanding Officer, but in all honesty it probably goes like this:

1) Tank crew -> immediate commander: 'we drove into a tree'.

2) Immediate commander -> battalion commander: 'our tank was ambushed by partisans and during the fight hit a tree.'

3) Battalion commander -> brigade commander: 'our tank was ambushed by partisans, killed them all, but was damaged in the fighting.'

4) Brigade commander -> division commander: 'our tank singlehandedly routed a Ukrainian division but a crashing airplane it had just shot down damaged the turret.'

5) Divison commander -> whoever else: 'we have conquered Ukraine!'

They can just say “the partisans planted it”…

Daily Sit Rep:

Presumably the original Gulf and Persian war M2s, as the Americans have mostly upgraded to the M2A2/A3/A4 models and have a load more on order. Still a great infantry armoured vehicle though. Could be a game changer indeed when it comes to how quickly the Ukrainians will be able to advance.

The Americans must be loving trying out all this technology they’ve spent billions on, actually seeing it working in the field and seeing how it measures up, they will be learning valuable lessons for the next big one against China.

China will be learning as well and realising their stuff is all copied from Russian equipment so might be a little less keen to try it out in combat (that’s the trouble when you just copy something rather than design it). It’s not just the equipment, it’s tactics as well.

Seems obvious looking back, but so many of us, myself included, decided to look the other way. Terrible business. Feel bad about that.

A greater fanfare might have dissuaded Putin somewhat but the west, particularly the UK and US have been supporting Ukraine since 2014 albeit largely limited to training and some low level bilateral defence agreements such as UK helping to build a naval port. All along the west, particularly again the UK and US, warned Russia that they were committed to Ukraines territorial integrity but of course the policy was one of containment not antagonism. Putin didn’t believe us. I’m not even sure the west believed he would attack in the manner he has until it was too late. Putin assumed the west reliance on his oil, gas and refining capacity would provide a mute response especially with his 3 day war (and let’s face if them oligarchs believe all Russias natural resources are their own). It would all be over before we could do much.

He remains a master strategist.
