Seen some vids and pics of Soledar. Seems like the numerical advantage eventually swayed the battle in Russia’s favour. The Ukrainians got tuned up pretty bad.
Soledar's fall does mean Russian now has a greater chance of seizing nearby Bakhmut, which in turn brings Kramatorsk and Slovyansk, the last big cities in Ukrainian hands in Donetsk, into focus.
Dunno but it feels significant. Polling in Russia suggests that the general public are maybe not supportive of the war but are not willing to tolerate defeat now they are in one. There is going to be a renewed Spring offensive by Russia, maybe even another go at Kyiv, with up to 500k extra troops conscripted. Whatever support NATO is thinking of giving needs to be sorted immediately, to give Ukraine the chance to train their troops on these tanks, etc. The US and Germany need to stop dragging their feet.
