If the Ukraine stopped fighting tomorrow, there would be no Ukraine. If Russia stopped fighting tomorrow, there would be a Russia and peace.
Russia have gone back on so many peace promises in the past, that they have no credibility to honour any new agreement. Therefore unfortunately, the only way to stop the Ukraine from falling is to keep fighting until the Russians withdraw.
Even then, there is no guarantee they wouldn't just regroup/rearm and have another go.

So Russia needs to be defeated (in Ukraine) and economically weakened, so any future attempt would be unlikely. At least for a very long time.

Scholz's skill at making all his allies mad at him really is unparalleled.

I think at this point he is just looking for excuses not to send them. He is worried that Ukraine will use the tanks to start seriously pushing Russia out of Ukraine including Donbas and Crimea and the Russians will go nuclear and Berlin would be a target. He probably hopes that there can be negotiated settlement and they are willing to sacrifice chunks of Ukraine to keep the Russians happy. Fucking idiot.
