Only a fool would believe NATO didn't have a plan when tanks would be needed latest and the time frame for all steps necessary to reach that aim. IMO.
This is where I see it, NATO have put effort into seeing what the needs are going to be coming up, clearly armoured troop carriers have been a big part of it. now Tanks.

Not sure wgat they mean by M1s.
M1s havent been used by the US army proper for nearly 20 years though they are still used by National Guard units.
They are the first generation of the Abrams produced in the 80s- equivalent to Leopard 1s and Challenger 1.
First line US tanks are M1A2s, with M1A1s in the process of being upgraded.

I was just about to go all John Rambo.
