I remember watching the Ken Bigley beheading years ago by the Islamic state. The curiosity got the better of me and scarred me swing that felt sick to my stomach.

I watched that as well, it is a shocking thing to see, i can still see it now , thankfully it is quick for the poor person when done by someone who is used to doing it , sick

Yes, the Russians are particularly awful by modern standards.

But the Germans did far worse in WW2 yet within a decade of the end European integration was well underway within a decade of the end, and are now excoriated here for being too peaceful!

The challenge should be how to integrate them into the world post conflict, not how to exclude them.
