2 high rankers and their support stafff died in Klishchievka yesterday 20-40 in total.
Watched a documentary about Somali pirates....the one in question was being chased by an American frigate. For some reason they didn't or couldn't fire at it so they followed it until it ran out of fuel. The somali coast came into view with the pirates still running. The Amrican captain did somethiing which they say has never been done before and circles the pirate vessel at full chat, the maelstrom of wake off the frigate swamped the pirates and they gave up. The manoeveur has been named after the captain and it looked quite spectacular.Around 2 minutes at between 15 and 30 knots for all sizes.
I’ve asked it repeatedly. What is the point in doing a deal with someone who won’t keep to it?
Still waiting for a meaningful answer.
But that’s not a deal, in the sense that it’s negotiated. It’s simply a statement of the position arrived at by the deployment of military force, as much as the Versailles Treaty wasn’t, in reality, a negotiated settlement.I think it's more about providing stable, long term support for Ukraine: a deal is signed which agrees status of Crimea and Donbass; Ukraine now qualifies for NATO and rebuilding can start towards EU membership; NATO membership deters Russia from reneging.
None of that requires trust in Putin, but it does require a deal.
I remember Mr Abromovic and his former mentor Oligarch having a legal battle. But that’s not a deal, in the sense that it’s negotiated. I’m referring to people who say Ukraine should sit down with Putin now, and reach a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
I have seen no cogent argument for such a step.
