Russian invasion of Ukraine

I think he’s less likely to repeat what he’s done to Ukraine, if plainly defeated (and preferably humiliated) than if he can claim a victory of sorts, not least because it will weaken him domestically.

I know there’s a risk of someone worse replacing him, but that makes his defeat even more of an imperative.

I just don’t see him accepting it mate although I agree he won’t go balls deep like this again for a good while at least and only then if he is 100% sure the west won’t do anything. He was emboldened with Crimea and our lack of response and I can see him being a snide little **** with a few border scuffles that are “nowt to do with me” sort of thing or just massing troops on the border for the shits and giggles.

If he had anything whatsoever about him he’d have held his hands up and withdrawn. He’s army is a busted flush and he’s not getting Ukraine.

You do realise that Latvia and Lithuania are in NATO?

Yes, I was in both last week and the atmosphere is extremely nervous about the Russians managing to install a puppet. Especially in Riga

As anyone that knows Russians with family still back home is aware, Putin’s support base will be unaffected by even a complete defeat. The older Russians who remember the soviet days are all-in with Putin and genuinely believe that ‘the west’ is targeting them.

The only ways to get rid of Putin would be him dying naturally, him being taken out by someone inside the Kremlin or Ukraine taking him out, and as he spends all his days in a bunker 100ft from the nearest other person, #2 & #3 are off the list.

Regardless of whether the "leak" about Prigozhin offering up Russian positions in exchange for Bakhmut is true or not, I think it's going to say a lot about how powerful his position is if he isn't taken out by Putin. He's generally ruthless about this kind of thing and wouldn't take the risk on even a 1% chance of it being true. I'd been wondering whether Prigozhin might have been leaking Russian positions to Ukraine already for weeks, given the sheer number that seem to get hit, so it doesn't exactly take a stretch of the imagination.

I’m curious as to why he’s doing it. He knows that putin won’t like any criticism and he’s in danger. Is he looking for a way out/ leniency at any war crimes trial?
