Russian invasion of Ukraine

The damn was hit back in Nov last year by retreating Russian forces. entirely possible that this weakened it and with no maintainnce has caused this now.

Edit: Or made it easier to hit one last time to break it properly.

Well, assuming that footage is authentic, there goes the cockup theory!

We'll probably never know who did for the dam, but that reservoir is collosal.

Wikipedia says the dam is 30m high, and holds 18,180×10(6) m3 of water, obviously we don't know how deep the damage goes into that, so not all may escape.

Also the river upstream beyond the reservoir will still be bringing huge volumes of water, so hopefully Ukraine can shut some of that off upstream, or at least slow it down.

The dam also provided power, though that may have stopped after the invasion.

The footage is from last November

Ah, hadn't twigged that.

Given the apparent confusion on both sides as to how to respond, I do wonder if this isn't a massive Russian dose of incompetence rather than malice.

OTOH they do seem quite capable of deliberately doing this without preparing for the consequences.

There are absolutely white nationalists in the Ukranian army - to suggest otherwise is folly.
To suggest it is in anyway comparable to the actions of the Russian Fascists is the ultimate Whatavoutary / Straw Man.
Go on a trip to Bucha and any other liberated srea of Ukraine and hospitals and residential appartment blocks in range of Russian Artillery see for yourself.

As per your wiki link it says 900-2500 members. How does that equate to “lots of Nazi’s in the Ukrainian army”?

You have uninhibited access to the internet of the free world and this is the best evidence you can come up with. Even if there was a grain of truth in it, which there isn’t. There is a reason 99.9% of this thread is anti Russian actions… it’s because they are the only knuckle dragging backward cunts in this story who still think it’s 1914 warfare all over again.

It was the Russians - I have no doubt.
Levels upstream are dropping 15cm an hour
