Russia’s own figures are higher that what the US thought to be honest. One of there news shows did an audit of obituaries on social media and it’s was higher ( or very close ) than Ukraine s figures.

Obviously the numbers are all over the place, not least because Russia leaves their wounded for dead.

The BBC have been doing a scour of social media and official records and had 100% confirmed around 45,000 dead the other day, but obviously it’s far higher than that.

The NY Times quoted the Pentagon last month at 120k Russian dead and 70k Ukrainian.

It’ll be interesting to see what they expect from an audit trail. I’d bet most of it is tracked to the nth degree as it is!

They don’t actually care about audit trail, they want to drop support.

russian government has ordered 230 000 documents (papers, passports) for the families of the dead soldiers. 750 000 for the soldiers that are currently in Ukraine and for those in russia who were involved in the war

from my experience if some russian **** says something about Ukraine losses you can turn that statement on 180 degrees and you'll get the exact number of dead orcs
