I wonder how many didn't want to be there, just ordinary young men (or women) who just happened to be born in Russia, so sad.

Putin is the biggest tosser to exist in my lifetime, hope he dies soon, there's a lot of young uns who don't deserve this hanging over their lives, despots normally don't survive, fingers crossed.

Sad, but the thing is that it their choice. Obey Putin or rebel and oust him. At least the last option gives them a chance of a future.
The trouble is many young Russian have been brainwashed from birth. It is hard for them to see through the constant state controlled media propaganda. (like many of the Russian bots on here)
Some Russians actually believe we are starving and eating our dogs to survive etc.

It is hard to set yourself free if you don't know you're in prison.

The Russian psyche is a weird conflation of paranoia about foreign powers and their intent towards Russia, and slavish acceptance of what those who rule over them tell them.

Well, that's very broad-brush but ok, next you tell us Homo sapiens is showing an egoist and greedy behaviour on an individual and national level. Yawn.

You know, say 3 years back many on here had a lot to criticize about US politics and way of thinking. Most of us hated war and weapon industries as we have more urgent problems to be solved on this planet and need every penny.
Then that little deluded imperialist was shitting on international law sticking his middle finger into our noses at the UN and did the unthinkable against a former brother nation. WTF.

Suddenly US military power had a comeback to the big stage and we were forced to accept that being a pacifist is wonderful - in theory!
But when an arsehole decides to rape your daughter you can't stand by and say "could you stop, pretty please? Maybe not so hard? Or maybe only twice a week? Please? Please?..." A raper wants to rape, not being nice. We need other ways to "convince" him to stop.

Western democracies have meanwhile decided that russia will be pushed back behind the red line (that's the russian border) otherwise it will go on endless repeat somewhere else.

putin has hunted neutral states into NATO, he has pumped up western military budgets and completely changed Europe's energy supply.
All that wouldn't have happened without putin's brutal war over the free state of Ukraine. It will go on until putin fucks off and yes, russia will have to pay a heavy price as the current model isn't too sustainable for a state. Especially such a small economy like russia.

What part don't you agree?
What's your alternative solution?

I don't have a solution. The solution will be decided by the US government, the military industry complex. When they start to feel they need to stop these things, to focus on other place, they will stop it.
The Russians, not only putin, the whole ruling class of Russia, they have made up their mind to keep fighting till the end.
And the Russians, average joe, most of them stand with their government, for the mother russia.
No way back, for Russia and Ukraine, it's too late.
The best way to stop a war is not to start it.
If you fail the election, then accept the result and try to do it better next time.
NO COLOUR REVOLUTION.

My friend, Yanukovich was elected on a false premise that he would greater align with the EU, a promise he renaged on.
That is what triggered the "Maidan" revolution.
