Russian invasion of Ukraine

A lot of bad blood from world war 2 coming out as the Ukraine army sided with Germany and commit a lot of atrocities in Russia . No excuse but Russia have long memories . Going fighters the Ukraine’s are .
There’s so much fucking history being bloody re fought again and again.

next door to Belarus and Ukraine is Poland for example, I think they have a couple of issues with Russia… kaytn et al https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katyn_massacre let alone nazi’s.

it’s like the balkans and the Middle East. Embedded hatred with no way back

It will end up like grozny with a capital in ruins
Well, whatever happens, two things will always be remembered--- the bravery of the Ukraine people and the war crimes of Russia.
In all honesty, even if diplomacy suddenly finds a solution very quickly, Russia will be considered a pariah for a very long time.

You introduce them to democracy and western lifestyles, while allowing them to maintain their quiet, rural lifestyles, if they prefer.

You make it sound like I’m trying to take something away from them, not give them freedom of choice?!

To be fair we do tend to force our cutural belief of how a nation should run on others, with varying degrees of success from welcomed with opened arms or a hatred formed against the west.

There are over 20 different indigenous peoples in siberia and far easter russia left to live in their traditional ways in the wilderness, and though the majority of the population are now Ukrainian and Russian immigrants and so culturally are western russian in mind in major towns and cities.

Do I have faith if the west particulary the US decided to bring democracy and western culture to the indeginous population they would be given a choice? Well the fuck up in not understanding the tribes of afghanistan doesn't fill me with confidence.

Also the fuck up of backing pissed up nutcase Yeltsin over the dying embers of the communist party leadership led to the death nell for a european democracy and constitution coming into being in the 80s and allowed a totalitarian despot like Putin to come to and hold onto power.

Kicking the **** out is a necessity and sooner the better but foisting our values upon all Russians is a naive mindset and simplistic.

Fighting with missiles is so cowardly when the opposition don’t have any. Putin has gone completely off the scale mad with this. The rhetoric on both sides seems to be heating up which is not good.

Some may have joined the Germans at the time but it wasn’t a majority of units and I haven’t heard that mentioned at all in the last few weeks - I don’t think Russian soldiers now have that in mind nor the **** instructing them.
The reason I know about Hungary is because my family are not far from the Ukraine border and there was bad blood between both nations over what happened back then . Probably nothing to do with what’s happening now I’m just try to fathom what is going though putins mind and why he is doing this .

The people who found themselves between the German Reich and the Soviet Union would always find succour and comfort in the regime that wasn't occupying them, and would naturally support that regime..
The German Reich went in and slaughtered Soviet citizens and people in their military that were captured.

Surpreme Commander of the German forces on the Eastern front, Brauchitsch, was charged with war crimes at the Nuremberg trials but the **** died before being found guilty.

Hitler gave a direct order to his generals to commit atrocities.

Heard an interview where the thought is that he has become fixated on WW2 and the number of Russians killed in that conflict.
