Russian invasion of Ukraine

Well, the successor could be incompetent and killed off in spite of having the same imperial ideas.
Or the successor might be imperialistic but realistic and recognize that it's suicide to attack the west. Such a successor might blame Putin for the mess and strike a peace deal.
Or the successor might be secretly for the good of Russia and realize that imperialistic ideas are outdated. Putin formed his aggressive mindset decades ago as a KGB officer during the cold war. A new leader might not have this mindset at all.
Or the successor could be batshit crazy and start dropping nukes.

Who knows? But on balance, I think a Putin successor is going to be better for the West than Putin is.
kremlin **** started his presidency as a pro-westener. you scratch any russian liberal and you'll find a fucking imperialist under by asking simple questions about:
Crimea, nukes, national republics within russia

Whilst principally an attack on Ukraine this was also an attack on wider Europe and the principal reason Putin thought he could get away with it relatively unscathed was because of our dependence on commerce with Russia, especially her oil and gas exports.

It would be insanity to go back to anything vaguely resembling that, or in my view, go back at all. Their isolation must continue. Otherwise, all we would be doing is fucking ourselves for the future.

How does that even work anyway? That European nations are forced to trade with Russia? How would that even be enforced? Europe needs to stand strong and united on this.
Correct.
However, as things eventually get resolved, greed will trickle through. The promise of cheap gas and oil will be too tempting...unfortunately.

Any replacement for Putin could be worse.
However, he will have the hindsight to whatever happens to Putin.
You can bet his palaces are windowless!

Not even Putin believed the extent the west have gone too. Us dropping Russian oil and gas was just never going to happen.
That is why sanctions have to continue for a very long time.
To blunt any new successor, and as a future deterrent to warn Russia and China that the economic cost is just too high.

Nobody knows, that's the problem, but I'm with gdm right now, there should be no discussion about Europe buying oil or gas from russia for the foreseeable future.

I think the best chance of change come from the russian military hierachy, I very much doubt that all of them support what is/has gone on in Ukraine.

I see they're now wasting bombs on Syrian rebels again too.

Apparently the Russian national alert system is sending out warnings. Read it from another forum from someone based in Finland ( no reason not to trust them ) but don’t have any evidence

Last night,Russian authorites raided Moscows 3 biggest nightclubs.
Every single male was put on buses and taken to the conscription offices.
Not looking good for them....average lifespan of Russian frontline troops,is 2-4 weeks.

Heroyam Slava.

Partying it up whilst there country rapes, murders and destroys anything in sight. Won't be partying this time tomorrow, bet they couldn't have given a fuck about Ukrainians 48 hours ago. They will now. Into the meat grinder they go.
