Russian invasion of Ukraine

Anyone pulled Trump up on believing the attack on Putin's house yet?
Of course they haven’t.

What a state of affairs that a US President can parrot a lie, one that has zero evidence to support it being anything else, and it barely raises a murmur. The fact Trump boasted he’d been told about this putative attack by ‘President Putin’ and not been pulled up on it shows what a sorry state US democracy is in right now.

Does Trump even believe it himself? Possibly not, which actually makes it marginally worse.

Was reading the other day our Challenger 2s are out performing the America Abrams for gun accuracy and crew survivability , if only successive short signed UK governments hadn't let our manufacturing capabilities go could have been a game changer in sufficient numbers. :-(
Only 2 lost in 2 years of drone warfare combat is impressive, unfortunately only sending 14 is barely a drop in the ocean as you say. Russia lose that many tanks in a single week.

For scale, Russia has lost over 23k military vehicles in Ukraine of which over 4300 were Main Battle Tanks. To compare to historic events and provide more scale Britain lost around the same number of tanks from D-day to VE day during the last year of WW2.

Interestingly outside blagging during that interview he has since "retruthed" an article about US intelligence saying the attack wasnt true and that its clear Putin is the problem for peace. The problem is theres no point even attempting to know if that means anything as he flip flops all the time, such as a month ago saying Ukraine can retake all their territory only to come up with a 100% Russia peace deal sometime later, its meaningless. You can only wait and see his actions. I dont think he has been directly questioned on it since though.

From what I’ve read, full collapse of the Russian economy is highly unlikely, but I don’t think that is necessary or even desirable given what it could lead to.
Yeah probably to big and self sufficient for there to be a complete collapse, it will restrict their ability to fetch stuff in though, as long as us Europe and the US continue with the sanctions and supply of armaments etc the chances of Russian victory look extremely slim.

The good part is from what I read is that in both Challengers that were lost the crews survived, such a pity we closed the factory that made them and with it the expertise.

I think it’s important not to get seduced by wishful thinking, but I do believe that the old adage that Russia can sustain limitless casualties until inevitable victory is anachronistic and wrong. The demographics are not the same as they were in the 1940s, and nor is the nature of warfare. Stalingrad could have been a very different outcome if drones had been in the picture, for example.

Something will have to give eventually if the pressure keeps being applied. Europe fully weaning itself off Russian energy has to be part of that equation for multiple reasons. I feel as a continent the only sensible course of action is to cut ourselves off completely from Russia, as challenging as that will be.

Russia still has a awful lot of young men of military age, how prepared to go to the front line and die it's difficult to know. Usually in war it's not always a willingness to die than wins out (see Japan) but wealth, resources and manufacturing capacity invariably does. Germany had very little chance in WW2 because of these factors. Western Europe has done pretty well in weening itself off Russian energy alas China's bought up the slack on the cheap and both Europe and the USA are flooded with Chinese goods so we're still funding the war to a degree.

There is zero chance of a "victory", they can't hold on to small amounts of square km as it is, that is clear. "Victory" would mean taking all the territory to the Balarus/Polish/Slovakian/Hungarian/Romanian border, that's not happening when they can't even take the Donbas, they tried it with the full might of their army, and it failed pretty miserably.

China (and to a degree) are taking the piss out of putin, he just hasn't realised yet. There are plenty of stories about that they're not buying russian oil like they were, and he doesn't have many other allies to sell too. Iran is probably his closest "ally" and there seems to be considerable unrest there again.

They're Russia's top buyer unfortunately admittedly taking the piss by getting it cheap.

A thought provoking conclusion to Rosenberg's article

I so hope that vox pop is vaguely representative. And as I’ve said previously even if it were to happen (and it won’t) a Russian ‘victory’ at this stage would be largely pyrrhic and an ongoing burden.

Even the CIA has confirmed there was no drone assault on the residence...

Noteworthy (and presumably intentional) that Trump is spelt with a lowercase ’t’ throughout that article.

The morning after the claimed attack, locals told Russian media, there was no noise of drones,no anti aircraft fire,it was silent the whole night.
What i will say,is.....the amount of Ukrainian drones being used,is nowhere near what is being produced.
Summat big "maybe" gonna happen.

Slava Ukraini.

For me it shows more about Americans in general
