Salford

Would that be the old Smithfield Market site? That wasn't far from Tib St. Just up from Exchange Station.
Yes, that's it. We were scruffing around town and pulled back some old boards and crawled in.
It was magical to us, no idea what it was or how we hadn't noticed it before.
Last time we were over @dronefromsector7G and his lovely wife took us in there for a few drinks.
I had forgot all-out the place until then.

Please, pretty please include Eccles in that list because we are an old, old town as well and were subsumed by Salford. :-)

We date back to the 4th Century and there are signs that Eccles existed even before that. :-)
spent many a day in Eccles in my younger days in the 90s. Never called it Salford alway been know as Eccles a town in itself

Eccles was in Lancashire when I was born there in early 1960s,was a lovely place with an identity, not any more, unfortunately.
I nearly always say, when asked, that I am a Lancashire lass. I still consider myself a Lancastrian not a Greater Mancunian or Salfordian!! Just my quirky nature I guess. :-)

Engraved into the old police station building ( now flats ) just across from the Bridgewater pub, it says.

The town of Eccles, in the county of Lancaster.

It shares the city centre with Manchester in planning terms.

Get off at Salford Central...

I'm from Salford and Eccles is Eccles, not Salford IMO. We never said 'We are just gonna jump on a bus into Salford Centre". It was always "Shall jump on a bus into Eccles"

It is not part of Manchester! I'm a Salfordian not a Mancunian
