Salford

Thanks for all the replies, looking back I think it was a mistake to shrink Lancashire by taking Merseyside and Greater Manchester out of it, besides the economy of scale the historic county would be like small country
*tongue in cheek time* I don’t want to upset the neighbours (nooo not Trafford ununited)

It must have been a Yorkshire personage who advocated shrinking Lancashire because they were jealous that Lancashire was a better, more beautiful place. ;-) :-)

Cointy wise it is simple

Manchester (80% of it), Salford, Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale are all Lancashire
Wythenshawe/Northenden (the other 20% of Manc) Stockport, Trafford are all Cheshire.

The rags are in trafford cheshire not Salford, not Manchester, not even in our County

Yes is the short answer. :-)

Eccles when I was a kid was also not considered part of Manchester and when I first left school in 19CoughCough and got a job in an office in Parsonage Gardens behind Kendals my friends thought I was being ever so posh working in the BIG CITY. :-)

Eccles still isn’t considered part of Manchester mate.

I don't want to start any arguments or cause any offence

But where exactly is Salford, there is the Metropolitan Borough of Salford which takes in a number of diverse towns such as Eccles and Prestwich but if you wanted to go into the Centre of Salford where would you go? We all know the centre of Manchester and Liverpool

I have often wondered this, it's classed as a City in it's own right but with no City centre

As an aside has Salford been consumed by Manchester and the historic demarcation disappeared? I know that Salford is a far older City than Manchester by the way
Seems like most of it has been relocated to Radcliffe

Parts of Trafford and in Cheshire and parts in Lancashire

You can easily spot it, look for a big pile of rusting scaffolding covered in flakey red paint, you’re then in Salford.

That will be Stretford
Here the 1st clue one end of the ground is called the Stretford End.
The 2nd clue The Ground itself is called Old Trafford.
The 3rd clue is in the postcode M16 0RA these are The Salford post codes1698823237381.png

Salford has enough problems with those twats being falsely associated with it.

I don’t believe I’ve ever heard / read someone refer to an area as West Manchester yet always hear East, South and North. It’s surely Salford even if just a colloquial name?

People can be very touchy about where they’re actually from. It’s a sense of identity for many.
