Sam Allardyce

Each to their own but I can easily envisage a situation almost like when Moyes went to United and the players just don't respect him.

England is a team full of players who have played in the CL and competed for and won major honours. It is a huge difference between doing that and avoiding relegation every year.

I simply cannot understand how a manager who got sacked from West Ham as they believed he could not take them forward, and has narrowly kept Sunderland in the PL is even in consideration for a job of this magnitude. It's irrelevant what he achieved at Bolton because that was a decade ago. The game has drastically changed since then. If we are going to use that to boost his credentials then Redknapp should still be in the running. At least he has managed in the CL and has won an FA Cup.

No one whatsoever can complain about England being a failure if we are going to keep employing 3rd rate managers.
First of all, he didn't get sacked from West Ham. His contract was up and neither side wanted to continue. You've got that bit wrong.
Secondly, narrowly avoiding relegation after taking over a team with 3 points from 8 matches is quite a good achievement.

It really is quite sad if Fat Sam is the best candidate for the job. He doesn't exactly represent modern football.

Again, another comment that is failing to see what the actual issue is. It is not the manager and it hasn't been the managers in the past. It is the players, when they come together as a group are not good enough. Do you think the way England played in the Euro's was what you say 'modern' football ?

It is time to get real, we cannot keep going down the same old path trying to play a continental style of football because the players can't do it. If Allardyce got the job I would bet my house he would say we are shit at trying to copy Spain, Germany, Italy etc etc.....lets do what we are best at and see how we go

That's just arguing the technicalities.

You're right in the sense that his contract expired rather than he was sacked but West Ham still obviously thought that he was not the right man to take them forward. Letting someone leave or sacking someone still means that the club do not think they are good enough.

Also, I never played down his achievements at Sunderland or any club for that matter. I actually think he did some of his best work at Blackburn and they fell apart once he left. Allardyce is a decent PL manager and any club who wants to ensure PL survival would be crazy to turn him down.

That said, I do believe that managers have certain skill sets and there are a number of 'safe' PL managers. By that I mean managers who are too good to be relegated but not good enough to take teams to the next level. Pulis, Hughes, Allardyce and arguably Pardrew all fit that bracket.

I think people are too quick to judge England and over hype all of the problems. The next manager will be walking into a young and talented squad. A team which now will have learned the harsh lessons of the Euro's. It's like when people say that City need 10 new signings. People are quick to write off players after a bad run of form.

Like I previously said, if the FA are adamant that they want an English manager then Allardyce should and will get the job. Does that mean that he is the best overall candidate? That is a resounding no IMO.

Klinsmann is nothing special and would pay too much respect IMO.

Big Sam is much better. Is respected by English players. English players know he's boss. Doesn't give a shit what anyone else thinks. Knows his shit. I bet he'll be phenomenal.
