First of all, he didn't get sacked from West Ham. His contract was up and neither side wanted to continue. You've got that bit wrong. Each to their own but I can easily envisage a situation almost like when Moyes went to United and the players just don't respect him.
England is a team full of players who have played in the CL and competed for and won major honours. It is a huge difference between doing that and avoiding relegation every year.
I simply cannot understand how a manager who got sacked from West Ham as they believed he could not take them forward, and has narrowly kept Sunderland in the PL is even in consideration for a job of this magnitude. It's irrelevant what he achieved at Bolton because that was a decade ago. The game has drastically changed since then. If we are going to use that to boost his credentials then Redknapp should still be in the running. At least he has managed in the CL and has won an FA Cup.
No one whatsoever can complain about England being a failure if we are going to keep employing 3rd rate managers.
Secondly, narrowly avoiding relegation after taking over a team with 3 points from 8 matches is quite a good achievement.
