I've heard that we have aproached Blackburn for a deal to sign Samba, with Ned going the other way

Make of it what you will.
Would defo take him as he's as hard as a rock and fantastic in the air at both ends!! Vinny can be the ball playing cb sometimes you just need someone to defend!!

Like say lescott who's considerably better than samba, if we sign a cb it needs to be someone who's world class on the ball as well as defensively.

Bollocks.

In my opinion, of course.

But this should be interesting, what makes Lescott "considerably better" than Samba?

That's your opinion mate and i respect it. I do rate lescott but think samba would give us more stability alongside vinny!!

He's just an all round better defender, better positioning, makes fewer mistakes and this season looks more comfortable on the ball.

As you say though, its all about opinions but I see no point in replacing lescott unless the replacements a big step up.

Ian Ladyman:

Mancini does not expect to add to his squad this January. He feels there is not a central defender in Europe valued at under £30million who will improve his squad in the long term. This does nothing to quell his anxiety, though.

I like Samba but, as discussed earlier in thread, find it hard to believe he is a player that would appeal to Bobby.

Bobby was quick to switch Kompany from midfield to centre half, reportedly partly because he didnt think our other CB's were physical enough. The problem with our existing CB's is that they're all better playing alongside Kompany, rather than as his back up.

The Kolo-Lescott partnership has never looked solid. Savic-Lescott struggled against set pieces in the QPR game. None of our other CB's look capable of doing the physical job that Vinny did on Carroll last week.

I think Samba would appeal to Bobby, purely as a back up to Vinny. Let Kolo go to PSG and replace him with Samba and we would have a much better mix of defenders.

I rate Samba quite highly and posted in the last window we should have gone for him. While Lescott has improved on last season he still worries me - 99% of the time he will never pass the ball forward - only sideways or back to the keeper and if anyone gets near him he still panics..
I'm sure that Samba would do a very good job for us - even when Vinnie comes back.

Lescott better than Samba?????? Utter hog-wash.

Right now we NEED a CB who can defend properly.

Samba is a brilliant tackler, has leadership qualities, strong in the air, scores goals, fearless AND bloody cheap! Whats not to like? There'd be plenty of buyers in the summer if we decided to offload - but right now he is perfect for us.
There's no need to 'bed him in', he doesnt have to move house, he's used to the Prem........................have I sold him yet?

Why does he have to be world class on the ball, he would only be passing it 4 or 5 yards to Toure, Barry, Clichy , sign him and we go and win the league.

we certainly need someone, id prefer a chiellini, hummels, silva but samba would be easy to get and someone who we need! get him signed ffs

Is Samba really good enough with the ball at his feet? We're crying for someone to take the ball out of defence with confidence. If Ladyman is right, Mancini doesn't think there is a defender valued under £30m that can improve us enough for the transfer to be worth it. I think Mancini wants Thiago Silva badly but if that deal could ever happen, it'd be a long grind next summer.

Dare I suggest Daniel Agger?
