Sarah Everard murder | Wayne Couzens given whole-life sentence

In fairness, nothing short of an AK 47 or a pack of wild dogs would help you if someone pretends they're a copper and wants to kill you.
I'm not being flippant, sadly, there are lots of evil men out there ,i just don't know what the answer is.

Define lots. There aren't really answers without telepathic powers.

It should be ok to call a passer by to help you if a lone man stops you and says he is police and to walk away, if he is a wrong un he should run , but to say get out your phone and call the police will not stop him attacking you, the advice should be better given as someone says they have had months to formulate good advice

They initially did what any organisation does when it's attacked, they deflected. They're making this up on the hoof because they're in defensive mode. To prevent public scrutiny and collective responsibility for any institutional shortcomings, they immediately isolated Couzens as a "wong un", a bad apple.

Since that when down very badly, coupled with their fuck up over the the subsequent vigil, they've been in damage limitation. They'll be praying this disappears from public consciousness over time, what with shortages and whatnot, and so will the Home Office.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a proper police officer on foot.
We get occasional pairs of community support officers walking around but real coppers - no.

I think it would help if men as whole stopped being so defensive about the issue. A bit more self-reflection wouldn’t go amiss. Perhaps examine our attitudes and behaviour towards women. The tendency to belittle any complaints about unwanted behaviour and comments, or jumping on posters aggressively if they suggest men and their attitudes are the issue.

Talking constructively and with empathy might be a good starting point.

I think the majority of men do. It's called being normal and not raping and murdering women. I don't think defining men as the problem and as collectively responsible helps either.

Ultimately, the police have inadequate procedures and don't take sufficiently proactive action in removing privileges from suspended employees. To ask any normal man to then be accountable for, rationalise, justify or bear responsibility for whatever happened in Wayne Couzens's head or to be tarnished with the same accountability as him, when they have no more reasonable understanding than any woman does of people who descend to that pattern of thought just alienates people from a discussion.

Personally, I would prefer to see change where the Everard case doesn’t happen, or can be forestalled by picking up on warning signs early on and acting upon them.

Venting about death penalties and harsh or extreme punishments, while on one level is emotionally satisfying, don’t actually change anything for the better.

The victim is still dead.
totally agree but.........

If Capital punishment was available it would hopefully act as a deterrent, I appreciate this would not be so in all cases but if it spared just one life surely it would be worth it? This rapist murderer is never going to be free again (thankfully) so what is the point of keeping him alive? The crime he committed does not justify the massive costs for protection and an easy life that the taxpayer will fund to keep him alive, does it?

The advice to women on foot from the top is to question the officer and ring 999 to check who they are , meanwhile they have hit you and dragged you off to rape and murder you anyway

Christ would it hurt them to have a practical bit of advice
I'm puzzled as to what other advice they can give really? There are far too many solo cops nowadays due to cut backs so the chances of being spoken to by a single guy is high.

If you're isolated when approached what other options do you have? If you've got time you could take a photo and quickly share it but if they are bad 'uns then they're not going to stand there waiting (for a photo or for you to phone someone).

If there are people about you could ask them to just keep an eye on proceedings for a moment and to video the encounter maybe but that would make (most) perps run anyway.

What about all the guilty people who wont be convicted of murder because people who oppose the death penalty will be far more reluctant to find them guilty?
