Scandalous Attendance at Villa Park

He's a bigger tit than the ones he used to see when he went dogging. He only tweets things to get a reaction, and it works.

For the record we're averaging 35,000 in the league which I think is decent considering we've won one home game all season, we're watching probably the worst team in our history and we're relegated by January. It will be interesting to see which way it goes for the rest of the season; people turn up and 'enjoy' being in the Premier League for the last few months (we won't come straight back up either) or people stay away in protest at Lerner and the team. I think the crowds will drop off personally unless we go down with a bit of fight.

Sometimes going down is good after years of relegation battles. Before you know it you are winning games left right and centre, in the play off zone or automatic promotion spots and fighting with Birmingham and Wolves with an annual visit from Leeds thrown in! Or it could go tits up and you do what we did and end up in the league below that. All good fun though and lifts the spirits!

I think this thread has taken up a life of its own, and turned into criticising / defending Villa's home support.

That was never my intention. What i was trying to complain about, was, presumably, many City fans who wanted to go (2 of my seasoncard holding friends definitely included ) could not get tickets for the match because it, (our allocation), was sold out.

With respect to Villa supporters, that must be the most under-subscribed "sellout" ever. I appreciate its their ground, presumably their fixture, but i just think its plain wrong, that people who want to attend, are prevented from doing so, for no logical / fair reason, especially, given the understandable apathy of the home fans, and its not as if their is particular hostility amongst the 2 sets of fans.

The title of your thread says something entirely different, though, mate, which is why the discussion has gone this way.

When we were watching the dross under McLeish and Lambert I actually said "if someone said to me you can go down, have a season in the Championship, come straight back up and rebuild I'd take it". Winning games is a lot more fun than losing every week no matter which league you're in, and people want to watch a winning team. As I said earlier our away support will go up massively because there will be new grounds and towns with cheaper tickets, and we will be going to games thinking we've actually got a chance of winning. I refuse to pay £40+ any more to watch us lose at your place or Man Utd, it's a waste of time, effort and more importantly money. I've got a young family so I can't justify paying £45 any more for a match I know we'll lose before I leave the house. The only problem is I don't think we'll come straight back up, the club is a shambles and rotten from top to bottom.

I don't think of any attendance as scandalous. As many people turn up as they want to or can afford to etc.

The Villa fans at the game will turn up week in and week out and deserve a bit better from their team.

i think the OP said a couple of their mates couldn't get tickets but they would have got in the game if they really wanted to. I knew of a spare on the day of the game and I think there were a few other spares knocking about - based on the ticket thread!

There could be two issues here:
1) Villa, and possibly the local plod didn't want around 9,000 City fans in attendance. I'm sure the £15,000 (assuming the home clubs gets a third) would have come in handy but they wouldn't have wanted it to be even more like an away game.
2) Perhaps Villa's replay meant City didn't feel confident about posting another 3,000 tickets in the time remaining. There are ways round this but our ticket office hardly has the greatest reputation.

1) That £15K would be seriously diluted by having to pay for extra policing and stewarding.

2) Our ticket office is not as bad as it is painted.

Spot on about watching a team winning. When City went down i had a sense of relief , a look at the fixture did not fill me with dread like it had been doing. The worst bit was the crowing pisstaking from the plastics, at least your neighbours will not be able to point to a load of trophys.
I believe lerner has lost interest when he realised he could not realistically expect a "franchise" system anytime soon to protect his investment.
The op has seen his thread turn into a slight on villa fans, which was not intended, more about the club's imtransigence on ticket sales.
