Scariest away day following City

Went to Cardiff mid 80s - 200 on train - tasty set of lads - about 100 police waiting for us at station - loads on horseback - surrounded us and escorted us to ground but that didn’t deter the taffs and they continually broke through the escort - did all the aways in those days Chelsea West Ham Leeds Boro Birmingham - all notorious but that trip to Cardiff compared with the others
That was tasty

the Victoria ground, Ayresome park and Elland rd were always lively in the late 60s early 70s, mind you back then you had to have your wits about you at most grounds

No trouble and it started our relationship with West Ham. I was in the Lion and the Lamb with Mick Fiorini etc when Mick has the construction cap. We marched down Marylebone Road to Kings Cross and we surrounded by Dibble with dogs. They put us on the tube and corralled and detained us at Moorgate. 150 in the cells. I wriggled away from a dibble who had me pinned and dived in a taxi with other escapees. We got relegated and the Hammers applauded us.
Strange day that on the tube it was edgy as fuck, a blue that wasn't with us had a tiny bit of the collar of his city shirt showing, the hammers spotted it a few other blues started sticking up for him and it looked like it was going to kick off properly. Then somebody farted, a proper good one and the whole of the carridge started gagging instead of fighting.
What happened after the game was unbelievable in those days, West ham invaded the pitch we assumed they would attack us then they appluded us.

I remember Neil McNab missing a penalty at Shrewsbury in the last minute. We hadn't won away for about 2yrs. Im sure I cried that day.
My first ever away game that as a 16 year old. My 16 year old son has been about 15 aways and done Wembley 6 times...how times have changed
