Schalke Travel Plans

There is a Ryanair flight from Frankfurt back to Manchester early afternoon Thursday currently around €70 one way.

Just booked Luton to Dortmund 19-21 feb £65 . Bargain .

I think we're on this. Mates booked on behalf last night, we got for £50. There was 5 of us on last night but that's due to grow. Believe the flights have gone to over £130 now...

Been to Schalke last time but stayed in Cologne, short ish train journey if I remember. Really looking forward to this now.

I’ve been to the Veltins Arena for around 7-8 games, including City’s UEFA Cup fixture in 2008, (which was slightly more convenient due to the earlier kick off).

This time, the game won’t finish till around 10:50 local time, so unless you’re staying in Gelsenkirchen, you’ll be struggling to reach your hotel before midnight. (Dusseldorf’s Alstadt will be even later)

Gelsenkirchen itself is relatively small when compared to Dusseldorf or Cologne, and the stadium is roughly 15 minutes on a tram from the hauptbahnhof, and a further 10 minutes to each the turnstiles.

There aren’t many pubs in the city centre, but they’re all close to the hauptbahnhof.

The local trains are free from Dusseldorf, Bochum and Dortmund, but Cologne is in a different area, and you’re supposed to buy a ticket for part of the journey (Cologne-Langenfeld).

You can always take your chances, but the German Ticket Inspectors don’t take prisoners.

Surely that’s against the Geneva convention?

We are staying in Gelsenkirchen, not much to do apparently but we will find a bar somewhere. Prices still only £80 so not to bad.
